RESOLUTION NO. 2737
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
ESTABLISHING A FEE FOR THE HANDLING OF CHECKS DISHONORED
BY -NON-PAYMENT.
WHEREAS, the City of Renton transacts a large amount of
business each year in which the citizens make payment by mean.s of
bank checks; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to continue to allow financial
transactions by means of bank checks for the convenience of the
citizens; and
WHEREAS, during the calendar year 1987 the City received 65
bank checks for which payment was dishonored in the total sum of
$19 , 700 . 00 and at an additional cost for collection to the City; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable that the City adopt a policy of
charging a fee in accordance with RCW 62A. 3-515, et seq, which .
provides for interest, collection costs and attorneys ' fees for
checks dishonored by non-payment, NOW THEREFORE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I : The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II : The Finance Department shall collect a bad check
fee, not to exceed $15 . 00 per check, pursuant to RCW 62A. 3-515 et
seq, for bank checks dishonored in favor of the City which are

dishonored by non-payment. The Finance Department may charge the
account of a customer for the bad check fee so assessed.
SECTION III : Notice of this policy shall be posted at all
locations at which the City accepts bank checks in payment of
financial transactions . Notice shall be further given by a general
mailing to all City utility customers in the manner and at such
occasion as may be directed by the Finance Department.
SECTION IV: Nothing in this Resolution shall limit the
City's right to collect a fee in excess of $15 . 00 per check in cases
in which suit is filed on the dishonored bank checks under the
provisions of RCW 62A. 3-515 .
