RESOLUTION NO. 2605
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
SUPPORTING KING COUNTY'S EFFORTS TO ESTABLISH A
COMPREHENSIVE SURFACE WATER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM, AND A
SURFACE WATER MANAGEMENT UTILITY
WHEREAS an expanding population and increased development of land in
Renton and unincorporated King County increases surface water runoff; and
WHEREAS uncontrolled surface runoff leads to problems of flooding,
property damage, erosion, sedimentation, water pollution, and loss of fish
habitat, fish and other wildlife; and
WHEREAS the City shares the drainage basins of Big Soos Creek, Black
River, Duwamish Estuary, Lake Washington West, Lake Washington East, May Creek
and Lower Cedar River with King County, and solutions to the surface water
runoff problems in these basins would be mutually beneficial to the City and
King County; and
WHEREAS the proposed King County Surface Water Management Utility will
provide the County with dedicated funding to establish a comprehensive surface
water management program and share in the costs of multi-jurisdictional
drainage problems.
THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
The City supports the proposed King County Surface Water Management
Utility and encourages passage of the ordinance to establish the Utility by
the King County Council .
