RESOLUTION NO. 2561
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
REQUIRING THAT THE TOTAL COST OF EMPLOYEE COMPENSA-
TION BE CONSIDERED WHEN NEGOTIATING LABOR CONTRACTS
WITH EMPLOYEE BARGAINING UNITS.
WHEREAS, a significant portion of employee compensation is employee
benefits, including medical and dental coverages, Social Security and pension
contributions, and industrial insurance payments and term life insurance, and,
WHEREAS, while salary adjustments for Renton employees over recent
years have been consistent with inflation, benefit increases have been significantly
more than inflation, resulting in overall employee settlements higher than inflation,
and,
WHEREAS, the City Council feels that employee compensation increases
should include all aspects of compensation, NOW THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I : The City shall conduct its negotiations with employee bar-
gaining units on a total cost of compensation basis, to include salaries, fringe
benefits and any other amounts the City may pay to or on behalf of its employees.
SECTION II : The City Council will evaluate proposals and make offers
on the basis of the total cost of employee compensation.
