CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON
ORDINANCE N0. 4672
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AbIENDING
TITLE VI (POLICE REGULATIONS) , OF ORDINANCE NO. 4260
ENTITLED "CODE OF GENER.AL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
RENTON, WASHINGTON" BY ADDING CHAPTER 25, PEDESTRIAN
INTERFERENCE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I . Title VI (Police Regulations) , of Ordinance No. I
4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton,
Washington" is hereby amended by adding Chapter 25, Pedestrian
Interference, which shall read as follows :
CHAPTER 25
PEDESTRIAN INTERFERENCE
SECTION:
6-25-1 : Definitions .
6-25-2 : Pedestrian Interference.
6-25-3 : Violation.
6-25-1: DEFINITIONS .
The following definitions shall apply in this Chapter:
AGGRESSIVELY BEG means to beg with the intent to intimidate
another person into giving money or goods .
BEG means to ask for money or goods as a charity, whether by
words, bodily gestures, signs, or other means .
INTIMIDATE means to engage in conduct which would make a
reasonable person fearful or feel compelled.
OBSTRUCT PEDESTRIAN OR VEHICULAR TRAFFIC means to walk, stand,
sit, lie, or place an object in such a manner as to block passage

by another person or a vehicle, or to require another person or a
driver of a vehicle to take, evasive action to avoid physical
contact . Acts authorized as an exercise of one ' s constitutional
right to picket or to legally protest, and acts authorized by a
permit issued by the City of Renton shall not constitute
obstruction of pedestrian or vehicular traffic .
PUBLIC PLACE means any area that is generally visible to
public view, and any area private or otherwise that is in common
use by the public with the consent, express or implied, of the
owner or owners, and includes any road, alley, bridge, driveway,
parking area, sidewalk, park, playground, schoolground, recreation
ground, park drive, park path, wharf, waterway, building, plaza, or
public conveyance open to the general public, including those that
serve food or drink or provide entertainment, and the doorways and
entrances to buildings or dwellings and the grounds enclosing them.
6-25-2 : Pedestrian Interference.
A person is guilty of pedestrian interference if, in a public
place, he or she intentionally:
A. Obstructs pedestrian or vehicular traffic; or
B. Aggressively begs .
6-25-3 : Violation. I
Pedestrian interference is a misdemeanor.
SECTION II . This Ordinance shall be effective upon its
passage, approval, and thirty days after publication.
