ORDINANCE NO. 4427
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AMENDING
SUBSECTIONS 8-4-24.F AND 8-4-31.A OF TITLE VIII AND 8-5-
15 A AND D (HEALTH AND SANITATION) OF ORDINANCE NO. 4260
ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
RENTON, WASHINGTON" RELATING TO WATER AND SEWEIt CHARGES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Subsection 8-4-24 .F. of Chapter 4, Water, of
Title VIII (Health and Sanitation) , of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled
"Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" is
hereby amended to read as follows:
Subsection 8-4-24.F: Private Water; Fire Service:
Services for fire protection must be metered or detector checkered
at the expense of the owner and fitted with such fixtures only as
are needed for fire protection and must be entirely disconnected
from those used for other purposes . The charges for such fire
pro�tec�ion services are hereby established as follows :
The private fire protection charge c�rill be $3 .25 per
month ger inch of �ire meter size.
No charge will be made for water used in extinguishing fire
if �he owner or occupant of the premises where such fire occurs
gives written notice to the office of the Utilities Engineer
within ten ( 10) days from the date of such fire. In no case will
any tap be made upon any pipe used for fire service puzposes or
any tank connec�ed therewith, nor shall the use of any water be
permitted through any fire service nor through any pipes, tanks or

other fixtures therewith connected for any purposes except the
I extinguishing of fire on such premises or testing flows for fire
control purposes .
SECTION II . Subsection 8-4-31 .A of Chapter 4, Water, of
Title VIII (Health and Sanitation) , of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled
"Code of �eneral Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington" is
hereby amended to read as follows :
8-4-31.A: There will be two new classes of customers
established for the water utility. They will be residential
(including single-family and duplex units) and commercial
customers (including multi-family, commercial, and industrial I
customers) .
� B. The minimum rates for metered water supplied within the
City in one month or fractional period thereof are hereby fixed in
the following schedule:

COMMODITY RATES
Two consumption blocks will be established for residential
customers (single-family and duplex customers) . The size of the
first block will be 0 to 1000 cubic feet of water consumed per I

month. The �econd block will be all consumption over 1000 cubic
feet per month. The rates for these two blocks are as follows : '
0 to 1000 cubic feet $1 . 68 i
Over 1000 cubic feet $1 . 78 i
, All commercial customers (multi-family, commercial and I
industrial) will pay for consumption at the first block rate of
$1 . 68 per 100 cubic feet. �i
SECTION III. Subsections A and D of Section 8-5-15 of
Chapter 5, Sewers, of Title VIII (Health and Sanitation) of
Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code o� General Ordinances of the
City of Renton, Washington" are hereby amended as follows : ,
Section 8-5-15: SEWER CHARGES:
A. The monthly rates and charges for sewage disposal
service shall be as follows :
1 . Single-family/duplex dwelling units - $11 .47 .
2 . All other users: A base charge of one dollar and
seventy nine cents ( $1 . 79 ) plus one dollar and twenty nine cents � II
($1 . 29 ) per month for each hundred ( 100) cubic feet of water used, I
for a minimum charge of $11 . 47 per month.
3 . Charges for sewer service without City water: In
the event that water obtained from sources other than purchased
from the City of Renton is either discharged or drained into the
sewer system, users shall be charged by one of the two following '
methods:
a. For single-family residence eleven dollars and
forty seven ($11 .47 ) per month.

b. For other than single-family dwellings, the
Director of Public Works shall install a water meter into such
private water system at cost to property owners, and the method of
billing shall be in compliance with Section 8-5-15 (A)2 . 'I
D. In addition to the foregoing charges specified in this
section, the following rates shall be charged:
1 . A charge of fifteen dollars and ninety cents
( $15. 90) per month payable to Metro for each single-family
dwelling unit. ''
2 . A charge of fifteen dollars and ninety cents
($15 . 90) per month payable to Metro for each seven hundred and
fifty ( 750) cubic feet, or any fraction thereof, of water used for
all users other than single family.
3 . Any additional charges hereafter imposed by Metro
under the " Industrial Cost Recovery" or " Industrial Waste
Surcharge" programs required under the FWPCA (PL 92-500) , Section
204, or as same may be amended hereafter, plus 15� thereof as an
additional charge for the City' s cost of implementing such
programs .
4 . Senior and/or disabled citizens who qualify under
Section 8-4-31(B) for special rates are eligible for the following
rates :
Twenty-five cents ( $0 .25) per month for City sewer,
and fifteen dollars and ninety cents ( $15 . 90) per month for Metro
sewer.

5ECTION IV. These rates shall become effective with
billings computed on or after January 1 of the year the budget is
adopted. �
SECTION V. This ordinance sha11 be effective upon its
passage, approval, and five days after its publication.
