RELATING TO HOLIDAYS
BE :IT.�ORDATNED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF RENTON, WASHINGTON AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION T : Existing Section 1-801 - Es�tablishing Legal Kolidays -
of Title I tAdministrative? af Ordinance No. 1628 entitled 'rCode of
General Ordinances of the City o� Ren-ton" is hereby amended a� follows
to comply with the so-ca7.led "Uniform Holiday Act`P as passed by the
Congress af the United States and as per Chapter 11 af �he 1969 Sessi.an
Laws of the S-�ate of Washing�on.
Sec�ion 1-801 as amended: The following are hereby
declared and established as legal holidays in the
City of �enton and recognized as such legal hc�li.days
far the employees of -the City, �ithout loss o�' pay:
The first day of January, commonly called
New Years Day;
The 12th day af February , Cbeing the anniversary
of the birth of Abraham Lincoln) ;
The third Manday of February, being celebrated
as the anniversay of the birth of George WasYiington;
The last Monday of May , cc�mmonlylmawn as Memarial day;
The Fourth day af July, being the annivers�y af
the Declara�ion o� Independence ;
The First Monday in Sep�ember, ta be known as Labo� Day;
The Second Manday o� Qctober, to be known as Columbus Day;
The Fourth Monday o� Octber, to be known as "Veterans Dayr' ;
The Fourth Thursday of November, ta be known as
Thanksgiving day;
The 25th day of December, commonly call.ed Christmas Day;
together with a day on which any general election is held throughout
-the State o� Washington; and any, date desi.gnated by public proclamation
of �he Chie� Executive of the State as a legal hol.iday.
Whenever any legal holiday , other than Sunday, fa11s upon a
Sunclay , the �ollowing Monday sha11 be a legal haliday9 likewise when
� any such legal holiday� falls upon a Saturday, the preceding F�iday
( shall be deemed a legal hol.iday.
� If any employee is requirecl to work on a holic�y, he shall

be allo�ed a�, substitute day off �rork, or in the alternative , with
prior appr.oval of the depar.tment .head, shall receive overtime pay
for such holi�y worked, provided however , that one-half (1/2 ) of the
City employees shall have , as a holiday, the day a�ter Thanksgiving
and the other half of such City employees shall have , as a holiday,
either the day before or the day following Christmas Day.
SECTION II : This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage , approval and legal publication.
