AN ORDIi�TANCE OF TEiE CITY OF RENTON, laASHINGTON, AMENDING
CHAPTER 3 , TITLE ?� (TRAFFIC ) OF ORDINANCE N0. 162$
ENTITLED "CODE �F GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
RENTON" BY ADDING A SECTION REGULATII�TG THE PA.R.KING OF
COMMERCIAL VEHICLES Ai�1D VEHICLES OVER 12, 000 POUNJ�S
GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT, AUTHORIZING TOWING A.ND nECLARING
CRIMINAL PENALTIES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHTNGTON, DO ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS :
SECTION I : Chapter 3 , Title X (Traffic ) o£ Ordinance No. 1628
entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of_ Renton" is hereby
amencled by adding the following section:
Section 10-313; Parkinq o£ Certain Commercial Vehicles or
Vehicles Over 12 ,000 Pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Requlations.
A. It sha11 be unlawful to park any commercially licensed or any
vehicle over 12 ,�00 pounds gross vehicle weight on any publa.c right-of-
way in which all of thP adjacent structures are occupied as residential
dwellings. Adjacent structures sha11 mean those structures on the s�me
side of the right-of-way as the area for parking and within the same
block .
B. On any public riqht-of-way in which not all of the adjoining
structu.res are developed and occupied as resident�_a.l units but there
are existing developed commercial or business occup�ncies, parking wil�
be perrnitted for commercial vehicles or vehicles above 12 , Q00 pouncls

gross vehicle weight only on that portion of_ the public right-of-way
abutting developed commercia.l or business property. For purposes oE
this ordinance, public right-of-way abutting commercial property sha11
mean that public right-of-way bounded by lines created by the
commercial property linP extended to where they int�rsect the public
right-of-way and on the same side of the public right-o�-way as the
commercial pronerty.
C. Commercial vehicl�s or vehicles over 12 ,000 pounds gross
vehicle weight are prohibited from parking an public right-of-way
between the hours of_ midnight and 3 ° 00 �.M. Between the h�urs of 9> 00
P.M. and 6 ; 00 A.M . no person shall park a commercial vehicle upon the
public right of way within 500 feet of residential dwellings and permit
any motor , engine, compressor or other device to operate .f_or more th�n
ten consecuti�e minutes or � total of ten minutes within any two hour
period.
D. Commercial vehicles or vehicles over 12,000 pounds qross
vehicle weight arP prohibited from parking on public ri�ht-af-way .f_or
more than two hours.
E. Gross vehicle weight is defined in R�W 46 . 16. 11]., or as
amended.
F . For purposes of this ordinance, any structure or residence
enjoying a home business occupancy permit shall be considered a
residential occupancy and not a commercial occupancy.
G. Public right-of-way shall include any �edicated or developed
property used or intended for use as public streets , alleys or other

means of public ingress , egress or passage whether the �roperty of the
City, County or State.
H. Exemptions : 1. Commercial vehicles or vehicles over 12 ,000
pounds gross vehicle weight enga�ed in deliveries or as support to an
ongoing business activity such as construction or moving arp exempt
from the provision of this Section, but only for the time reasonable
and necessary to suoport the activity or make the delivery.
2. Commercial vehicles typically used for passenger or commuting
purposes (sedan, stationwagon, small van, small pickups ) that are unc�er
12,000 pounds ar2 exempt from the provisions of this Jrdinance.
3. Privately owned recreational v�hicles and boats shall not be
regulated under this ordinance unless tk�e vehicles are bei.ng parke� as
part of a commercial activity suc'n as repairs , sales or servicing or_
are being used for a commercial purpose.
4 . Utility trucks when owned by a public or auasi-public agPncy
and when the drivers are requir�d by their employment to respond to
emergencies.
SECTION II : �ound. Any Uehicle found to bP in violation of
this ordinance is declared to be a public nuisance, �nd such vehicle
may be impounc�ed if no operato.r i� present who will immediate�y comply
with the ordinance.
SECTIO�T IIT : Criminal Penalties . Any person, partnership, firm,
corporation or other legal entity in violation of this ordinance shall
be guilty of a misd2meanor and subject to a �ine of up to $500 . O�J �nd a
term in jail of up tc� 90 days of both.

SECTION IV: This Ordinance shall be effective upon its p�ssage,
approval and thirty days after public�tion.
