SEClI0i�1 I : Existing Section 2-1001 of '�itle II,�Commissions
and Boards)of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances
of the City of F.eriton" is hereby amended to reacl as follows :
Section 2-1001 as amended: DECLARATION OF POLICY;
DEFINITION: The City Council herewith finds that all forms of prejudice
and the general practice of discrimination against any individual, grou�
or organization by reason of race, color, creed, national origin, aje,
sex or the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical handicap, have
a detrimental effect on the public welfare and well being; that to
eliminate such prejudice and discrimination an instrumentality should
be established through which the citizens of the City of Renton may be
kept informed of developments in human reTations , the employees and
officials of the City �ay obtain expert advice and assistance in
wholesome practices to keep peace and good order and pr:ivate persons ,
groups and organizations ma.y be officially encouraged and advised to
promote tolerance and good will, actively, toward all peoples .
DEFINITION: The words "discrir_zinate" , "discriMinates" ; or"discrir.iination"
wherever used in t'nis Ordin ance are hereby defined and declared to
mean and include discriminatbon on the groun ds of race, color, creed,
national ori�in, a�e, sex or the presence of any sensory, nental or '
physical handicap; provided, however, that the prohibition against
discrimination because of such physicaZ handicap shall not apply if the
particular disability prevents the proper and satisfactory performance I
of a particular worker involved.

SECTION II: Existing Section 2-1006 (A) of Title II ,
(Commissions and Boards ,) of Ordinance No. 162� entitled "Code of
�eneral Ordin ances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended to read
as follows :
Section 2-1006(A) as amended: C�P�TPLAINT: Any person,
group or organization claiming to have been discriminated against by
any other individual, group or organization by reason of his race,
color, creed, national origin, age, sex or the presence of any sensory,
mental or physical handicap as hereinabove defined, may make, sign and file
with the Secretary of the Commission a written complaint, under oath, which
shall state the name and address of the person, group or organization
complained against , together with such other information or data as
may reasonably be required by the Commission. The Commission shall
prepare and have available for distribution appropriate complaint forms .
SECTION III : Existing Section 2-1007 (A) of Title II, (Commissions
and Boards , ) of Ordinance No. 1623 entitled "Code of General Ordinances
of the City of Renton: is hereby amen ded to reacl as follows :
Section 2-1007(A) as amended: PR�CEDURE: The nrovisions
of this Ordinance shall be construed liberally for the accomplishment
of the purposes thereof. Nothing contained herein shall be deemed to
amend, repeal or mo dify any of the provisions of any Civil Rights law
or any other law of the Federal or State government, or any other
provision of this Code relating to discrimination because of race,
color, creed, national origin, age, sex or the presence of any sensory,
mental, or physical handicap as hereinabove defined. The provisions
herein provided shall, while pending, be exclusive, and the final
determination therein shall exclude any other action, civil or criminal,
based on the same grievance of the individual concerned. If such
individual institutes any action based on such grievance , without resorting
first to the procedure provided in this Ordinance, he shall not
subsequently resort to the procedure herein outlined.

SECTION IV: Any and all ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION V: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
upon its passage, approval and five days after its publication.
