AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REN'TON, WASHINGTON
AMENDING CHAPTER 1 of TITLE VI (POLICE REGULATIONS)
OF ORDINANCE NO. 1628 ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL .
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON" BY ADDING A
NEW SECTION EN"fITLED "BREACH OF THE PUBLIC PEACE"
THE CiTY COUIVCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS: � ' -
SECTION I: There is hereby established a new Section to Chapter 1 of Title
VI (Police Regulations) of Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances �
� of the City of Renton" to read as follows: � �
Section 1-186 BREACH OF ?HE PUBLIC PEACE: A person shali be guilty of
breach of public peace if such person causes, or�by his actions or words is likely to
cause, a breach of the public peace. Public peace, for the purpose of this Ordinance,
is defined as the right of inembers of the general public to be free from unreasonable
' .
noise, public danger, alarm, disorder, nuisance, fear or damage, either to person or
�property. For the purposes of this Ordinance the following acts are c�eemed a breach
' /any one or moze" of
of public peace, and any person committingt�these acts will be guilty of breach of the
public peace, to-wit: -
1. Acts of violence, inciuding fights whether with feet, hands, fists or weapons,
whether kicked, thro.wn, swung or o#herwise utilized. '
2. Acting in a violent, threatening, intimidating or hostile manner toward
another persorr such that ,that person is reasonably placed in fear of injury to or fear
of his life, body, limb, health or safety.
3. Acts in a violent, threatening, intimidating or hostile manner toward the
prope�ty :�f another person whereby such person is put in reasonabie fear of the safety
or intF•�,t it}� �f such property. �

5. ����ces, allows, continues, or causes to be made or allowed .or continued, any
ex�cessive ����cessary or unusually loud noisey or any noise which either annoys, disturbs, I,
injure� or encEangers the comfort, repose, heatth, peace or safety of others.
6. Addresses abusive, vile, profane or obscene language or threats to any person
which demeans the character, intellegence, morality ar fitness of the other party, I

which language or threats interfere with the other party's lawful pursuit of his or her
profession, or which interferes witti the _peace�ul pursuit of a lawful activity of that
other person, or the general public. .
7. Damages, befouls or disturbs public property or property of another so as
to create a hazardous, unhealthy or physically offensive condition.
8. Organizes, operates, provides space for, permits or allows to continue, any
gathering of people, when such gathering creates such noise as annoys, disturbs, injures
or endangers the comfort, repose, peace or safety of others, or .when the method of
transportation, either when being operated, or when awaiting ,use, seriously congests
public right of way or interferes with the use and enjoyment of adjoining property.

It shall be unlawful for any person to breach .the public peace in the City of Renton:

SECTION II: Any and all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith

SECTION III: This Ordinance shall be effective upon its passage, approval and
five days after its publication.
