ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AMENDING
SECTIONS 1-801, 802 of CHAPTER 8, TITTLE I, (ADMINISTRATIVE)
OF ORDINANCE 1628 ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF
THE CITY OF RENTON",
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: Existing Sections 1-801, 802, of Title I, (Administrative) of Ordinance
No. 1628 entitled "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON" reading
as follows:
1-801: ESTABLISHING LEGAL HOLIDAYS: It is hereby declared to be
the po7cy ot the City that the o -owing be established and recognized
as legal holidays in each year for employees of the City without loss
of pay:
January 1st Memorial Day October 12th
February 12th July lith November 11th
February 22nd Labor Day December 25th

together with a day on which any general election is held throughout
the State; and any day designated by public proclamation of the Chief
Executive of the State as a legal holiday, or as a day of Thanksgiving.
Whenever any legal holiday, other than Sunday, falls upon a Sunday,
the following Monday shall be deemed the legal holiday. If any employee
is required to work on a holiday, he shall be allowed a substitute day
off work, or in the alternative, with prior approval of the department
head, shall receive overtime pay for such holiday worked. (Ord. No.

1-•802: VACATIONS: Every officer or employee of the City who shall
have been in ne service of the City for at least one (1) year of con-
secutive employment shall be entitled to and receive one (1) week's
vacation with pay; and every such officer and employee having two (2)
years of full consecutive employment shall be entitled to ttiio (2) weeks s
vacation with pay; every officer and employee having completed ten (10)
years or more of full consecutive employment, shall be entitled to three
(3) weekts vacation with pay.
When any officer shall not take a vacation to which he is entitled
in any calendar year, because of the urgent need of his continuous ser-
vice, and with the approval of the head of his division, such officer or
employee may be allowed such vacation during the succeeding calendar
year, but in no event shall any vacation not taken in the year then due,
be accumulated beyond the next succeeding calendar year. All vacations
shall be taken at such time as shall be approved by the head of the
division or department in which the person entitled thereto serves, or
in the case of an officer, by the Mayor, (Ord. No. 1718 1-27-1959)
BE .AND THE SAME IS HEREBY AMENDED TO READ AS FOLIO'S:

preceding Friday shall be deemed a legal holiday. If any employee is

1-802 As Amended: VACATIONS: Every officer or employee of the City
srall,`:after, the first six months of employment (the so-called pro-
bationary period) receive and be entitled one (1) day per month of vaca-
tion credit so that after the first full year of employment with the
City such officer or employee shall have a total of six (6) working days
of vacation credit; and every such officer and employee, after such
first year's employment, shall receive and be entitled to a credit
equal to one (1) day per month of consecutive employment thus providing
total vacation credits of twelve (12) workizi; days for each year; after
ter_ (10) years of continuous employment with the City of Renton such
monthly credit shall be increased to one and one --half (121) working

When any officer or employhe shall not take a vacation to which
he is entitled in any one calendar year, as above specified, by reason
of the urgent need of his continuous service or because of seasonal
demand therefor, such officer or employee, with the approval of the
head of his department or division, may be allowed such vacation during
the succeeding calendar year but in no event shall any vacation not
taken in the year when due, be accumulated beyond the next succeeding
calendar year. All vacations shall be taken at such time as shall be
approved by the head of the division or department in which the person
entitled thereto serves, or in the case of an officer, by the Mayor.
SECTION -11: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage, approval and legal publication.
