AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, ESTABLISHING
CHAPTER 25 of TITLE I (ADMINISTRATIVE) OF ORDINANCE NO. 162$
ENTITLED "COIF OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON"
RELATING TO SICK LEAVE.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COiNCIL OF TIM CITY OF RENTON
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: There is hereby established a new Chapter, to be hereafter
known as Chapter 25 of Title I (Administrative) of Ordinance No. 1628
entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City.of Renton« to read as
follows:
Chapter 25:
Section 1=2501: There is hereby established and fined the follow.
policy and schedule of granting sick leave to all full time employees
of the City of Renton;
(a) Each full time City employee who has completed six (6)
months continuous service with the City of Renton shall be
entitled to not more than five (5) days of sick leave; any
full time employee of the City of Renton lrho has completed one
(1) year continuous service with the City shall be entitled to
a period of not more than ten (10) days of sick leave and an
additional period of five (5) days shall be granted to each full
time employee for each additional six (6) months period of con-
tinuous service with the City but any such accumulated period of
sick leave shall in no event exceed fo:Mttr five (45),!.days; and
all the foregoing subject to the following provisions, to -wit:
(b) Any full time employee who is on sick leave for a period of
two (2). days or less as above specified, shall, prior to being
entitled to compensation thereof, submit a "sick leave compensation
request" to the head of his Department for approval, TheCity of
Renton shall rake available such request forms or cards to the
employee which form or card shall, among others, give the time
the employee was off duty, the reason for being absent from work
and a request for compensation of the time lost. Such form or
card requesting sick leave compensation shall be submitted to
the head of the Department by the employee at the earliest pos-
sible date.
(c) Any full time employee who is on sick leave as above speci-
fied for a period of three (3) days or longer, shall, prior to
being entitled to any compensation thereof, furnish without delay
a report from a qualified doctor which shall contain a diagnosis
of the sickness, whenever possible, and in addition to such
doctor's report the employee shall furnish and submit unto the
head of his Department a "sick leave compensation request" as
provided for 7.n the immediately preceding paragraph herein,
"Qualified doctor" shall mean a duly licensed doctor of medicine.
(d) In any case in which an employee shall be entitled to benefits
or payments under the Workments Compensation Act or similar legis-
lation of the State of Washington, or any bther governmental unit,
the City of Renton shall only pay the difference between the bene-
fits and payments received by such employee and the regular rate
of compensation that such employee would have received from the
City of Renton if he would have been able to work. The foregoing
payment or contribution by the City of Renton shall be limited to
the period of time that such employee had accumulated sick leave
credits as hereinabove specified.
SECTION II: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage, approval and legal publication.
