BE I^1 ORDAINED BY THE MYOR AND TIE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY CF RE@ITON
AS FOLLOIS:
SECTION I: Existing sub -section (b) (1) of Section 4-717 of Title IV
(Building Regulations) of 03dmance No. 1628 entitled «Code of General Ordinances
of the City of Renton" reading as follows:
4-717: FRONT, SIDE AND REAR YARDS:
(b) Side Yard:" Where any specified side yard is required, no
building shall be hereafter -erected or altered so that any portion thereof
shall be nearer to the side lot line than the distance indicated by the
width of the required side yard.
(1) Exceptions: Eaves and cornices may extend over the
required side yard for a distance of not more than two (2) feet.
Accessory buldins when erected so that the entire building is
within a distance of thirty (30) feet from the rear lot line, may
also occupy the side yard of an inside lot line.
Fences and hedges not over forty-eight (48) inches in height,
measured from the ground on which the fence or hedge stands, may be
built along or within a front and/or side yard to a depth of seventy
(70) feet from the front prdperlyline� thereafter such fence may be
raised to a height of seventy-two (M inches for the remaining
distance to the rear property line. Fences and hedges over thirty-
siT (36) inches in height along or within a front and/or side yard
of corner lots must have the prior written approvral of the Building
Departmnt. Fences or hedges which deprive adjacent properties of
a natural view of the landscape which is a contributing factor in the
value of the land are prohibited.

portion thereof shall be nearer to the side lot line than the distance
indicated by the width of the required side yard.
(1) Excepticns: Eaves and cornices may extend over the required
side yard for a distance of not more than two (2) feet. Accessory buildings
when erected so that the.entire building is within a distance of thirty
(30) feet from the rear lot line, may also occupy the side yard of an
inside lot line.

Fences and Hedges
(a) A fence not exceeding forty-two (42) inches in height
may be located on any part of a lot.
(b) In cases of interior lots, a fence or hedge not exceeding
seventy-two (72) inches in height may be located on any lot line to
the rear of the rear line of the required front yard; provided
where a lot rears upon an alley any such fence or hedge along the
lot rear line shall contain a gate affording access to said alley.
(c) In case of corner lots a fence or hedge not exceeding
seventy-two (72) inches may be located on the lot interior side line
to the rear of the rear line of the required front yard., and on the
Lot rear line except thAt along the portion of the lot rear line
constituting the width of the required side yard on the side street
the fence or hedge shall not exceed a height of forty-two (42)
inches; likewise such fence or hedge shall not.exceed forty-two
inches in height within that portion of the required rear yard
which abuts the front yard of an interior lot.
(d) Where a fence or hedge is located directly on the ground$
the height of the fence as hereinabove specified,, shall be the vertical
distance from the top board., rail or wire to the ground directly below
said fence. In case a masonary wall is used as a fence., the height
shall be the vertical distance from the top surface of the wall to the
ground on the high side of the wall.

(e) No fence or hedge shall be located on any public right-of-
(f) The provisions and conditions of this section regulating
the height of fences., hedges and walls shall not be applicable to
fences or barriers otherwise required by State law or Ordinances of
the City of Renton to surround and enclose public utility installations$
school grounds, public playgrounds, private or public swimming pools
and similar installations and improvements.

SECTION II: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage, approval and legal publication.
