A Resolution C rotesting the increase in telephone
rates requested by the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company from
the Washington Department of Public Works.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Renton
WHEREAS there is pending before the State Department
of Public Utilities an application by the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph
Company for increase of telephone rates, which if granted would increase
the cost of telephone service both to the City of Renton and the in—
dividual: telephone users residing in and operating businesses in Renton;
AND
WHEREAS the present telephone rates in the City of
Renton are presently such that many potential telephone users forego
telephone service because of the cost thereof, and an increase of rates
would aggravate this situation and tend to limit and discourage the
use or increased use of telephones in the City of Renton, and would to
that extent retard the public welfare; AND
WHEREAS the objective of imereased revenues to the
telephone company might be better advanced if wider use of telephone
facilities be not discouraged by higher rates;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the'City of Renton expresses -its opposition to any increase at the
present time in the telephone rates applicable to and now in effect in
the City -of Renton& and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded by
