A Resolution of the City of Renton, Washington stating reasons
why the(City of Renton is opposed to the (assage of war housing disposition
legislation now before the National Congress of the U. S. A, and directing
the City Clerk to Air Mail a copy of this Resolution to each member of the
Washington Sate Congressional Delegation at Washington D. C.
WHEREAS war housing dispositionlegislation now before the National Congress
provides for the disposition by December of 1948 of all war housing, and
WHEREAS there is no provision in the legislation for consultation with local
planning agencies and no provision for cooperation with local housing author—
ities, and
WHEREAS the legislation provides for outright sale and includes no method
for continuation as rental housing for the period of the housing emergency,
and
WHEREAS there are located in the City of Renton 3,000 units of war housing
which would come under the jurisdiction of the legislation, and
WHEREAS there is no provision in the proposed legislation to respect previous
commitments in the Lanham Act regarding panelization of temporary units nor
to respect commitments by the Government of the United States acting through
the FPHA to remove demountable war housing units in certain areas when the .
war emergency is over, and
WHEREAS the reasonable and logical disposition of Renton's war housing is
of paramount concern to the economic well being of the City of Renton,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENT//ON, WASH.
Section 1: That the City of Renton go on record as being(Opposed
to the passage of the present war housing disposition legislation) now before
the National Congress in its present form. ff
Section 2; That the City Clerk be directed to air mail a copy of
this Resolution to each member of the Washington State Congressional dele—
gation at Washington D. C.
