ORDINANCE NO. 3935

AMENDING CHAP-f ER 7 OF I�ITLE IV (BUILDING
REGULATIONS) UF ORDINANCE NO. 1628 ENTITLED
"CODE OF G�NERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
REN TON" RELATING 1�U AUDING DEF�INITIONS FOR

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CI TY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: Existing Chapter 7 of Title IV (Building Regulations) of
Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby
amended by adding definitions as follows:
Section 4-702(B)7: BUILDABLE AREA: The portion of a lot or site,
exclusive of required yard areas, setbacks, landscaping or open space, within which a
structure may be built.
Section 4-702(B)8: BUILDING FOO1"PRINT: The area of a lot or
site included within the surrounding exterior walls of a building, or portion thereof,
exclusive of courtyards. In the absence of surrounding exterior walls, the building
footprint shall be the area under the horizontal projection of the roof.
SEC7ION II: Existing Chapter 7 of Title IV (Building Regulations) of
Ordinance No. 1628 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby
amended by adding definitions as follows:
Section 4-702(S)1: SETBACK: The minimum required distance II
between the building footprint and the property line.
Section 4-702(S)2: SETBACK AREA: The portion of a lot or site
between the building footprint and the lot line within which no building or other structure
or portion thereof may be erected above grade level, except as provided in this Code.

Section 4-702(S)3: SIDE YARD: An open unoccupied space of the
same lot with a building between the side wall line of the building and the side of the
same lot.
Section 4-702(S)4: SINGLE-FAMILY DWELLING: A building
arranged or designed to be occupied by not more than one family. (Ord. 3543, 5-4-81) '
Section 4-702(S)5: SPECIFIED ANATOMICAL AREAS (Adult ,
Motion Picture Theaters): �,
(a) �ess than completely and opaquely covered human genitals, '
pubic region, buttock and female breast below a point immediately above the top of the
areola; and
(b) Human male genitals in a discernible turgid state, even if
completely and opaquely covered.
Section 4-702(S)6: SPECIFIED SEXUAL ACTIVITIES (Adult Motion
Picture Theaters):
(a) Human genitals in a state of sexual stimulation or arousal:
(b) Acts of human masturbation, sexual intercourse or sodomy;
(c) Fondling or other erotic touching of human genitals, pubic
region or buttock or female breast. (Ord. 3526. 4-13-81)
Section 4-702(S)7: STORY: That portion of a building included
between the surface of any floor and the surface of the floor next above it. or if there be
no floor above it, then the space between such floor and the ceiling next above it.
Section 4-70'L(S)8: S�f(�EE�T: A dedicated area for public use for
vehicular and/or pedestrian use with a paved or otherwise improved surface.

Section 4-702(S)9: 5 TRUCTURE: Any object constructed or
installed by man, including but without limitation, buildings, towers, smokestacks and
overhead transmission lines.
SECTION III: This Ordinance shall be effective upon its passage
and approval and thirty days after publication.
