WHEREASI it has come to the attention of the City Council of the
City of Renton, that the Board of King County Commissioners have adopted a
resolution agreeing to purchase a large tract of land to the east of
and bordering the City of Renton, being portions of Section 16, Twp, 23 N.,
R.5, for use as a gravel pit and, as this land is ideally located and
suitable for the building of homes thereon, and the use of this tract of
land as a gravel pit by King County would be a detriment to the City of
Renton and a blight on the area and forever prohibit its use for any
other purpose and,
WHEREAS, there is a vital need in this area for the housing of
defense workers and others and that the land and location is ideally suit-
able for this purpose, and the Chamber of Commerce of Renton has interested
a development company in this property for the building of approximately
1,500 homes, a development that will cost in excess of fifteen millions of
dollars and there is no other property satisfactory to the developer in
this area except the above mentioned property, and
WHEREAS, if the County insists on the completion of the purchase
of this property for a gravel pit to the exclusion of a large scale
development of homes which will add millions to the tax rolls of King
County and, the best interests of the City of Renton and King County
will be served by the Board of King County Commissioners relinquishing
their present rights in said property,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Renton (request that the Board of King County Commissioners relinquish
whatever legal rights they have in said property in the best interests
of both the City of Renton and King County and seek other and less
valuable lands for the establishment of a gravel pit.
