RESOLUTION NO. 826
WHEREAS, the population of the City of Renton has been rapidly
and continually growing during the last decade, said growth not being
created solely by the temporary war emergency but resulting from the
natural and steady increase in population and the establishment and
settlement of many families in Renton and its immediate vicinity and
WHEREAS, the present public and municipal buildings, facilities and
conveniences are inadequate and insufficient in view of said rapid
growth, NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON:
The City Council finds that there presently exists in the City
of Renton, Washington, a critical shortage of rental housing units;
that the supply of rental housing units available for rental is far
less than the existing and immediate demand for same; the City Council
further finds that due to the rapid growth of the City and its population
the existing public and municipal facilities such as City Hall, Library,
parks and playgrounds and other public and municipal structures and neces-
sities are inadequate and insufficient; the City Council thus finds that
public necessity and conVAnience demand the acquisition by condemnation
or other method if so possible,;of the property known as Cedar River
Park for the purpose of acquiring and establishing adequate sites for
necessary public and municipal purposes.
The City Attorney of the City of Renton is hereby authorized to
take all necessary and immediate steps for the acquisition from the
Federal Government of the temporary housing project known as Cedar River
the City or other agency

operate said housing project for the duration of the present emergency
and as long as the critical shortage of rental housing units does exist
within this area; and the City Attorney is further authorized and direc-
ted to take all necessary steps to begin condemnation proceedings, in
the manner provided by law, to acquire said parcels of land, to carry
