ORDINANCE NO. 1,557
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
DESIGNATING A RESTRICTED AREA ADJACENT TO ITS
WATER RESERVOIR AS BEING WITHIN JURISDICTION
OF THE CITY FOR PROTECTION OF ITS WATER SUPPLY
FROM POLLUTION; DECLARING CERTAIN ACTS TO BE
A NUISANCE; PRESCRIBING ACTS CONSTITUTING
OFFENSES AGAINST THE PURITY OF SUCH WATER SUP-
PLY; AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION
THEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SECTION I: For the purpose of protecting the water, furnished
to the inhabitants of the City of Renton and others from pollution, and
for the preservation and protection of the purity of the City's.water
supply, acting pursuant to Chapter 227 of Laws of 1907 and R.C.W.
35.88.010 to 35.88.090 inclusive, the City of Renton hereby declares
jurisdiction over the real property hereinbelow described, and declares
said property subject to the restrictions imposed by aforesaid laws and by
this Ordinance, said property being occupied by or adjacent and d.raring
to the works, reservoirs, systems, branches, pipes, springs, creeks,
tributaries and streams above and below ground, from whichor by.means
of which the City of Renton obtains, accumulates, stores and transports
water furnished to the inhabitants of the City and adjacent areas sup-
plied with water through the -municipal water system of the City; said
property being described as follows, to -wit:
Beginning at the intersection of the east, line of 96th
Avenue South and the north line of Tmmship 22 North,
Range 5 East W. M.; thence east along the north line
of said Township 22 North to the west line of 104th
Avenue Southeast produced north; thence south along
the west line of 104th Avenue Southeast produced north,
to the north line of Southeast 200th Street; thence
west along the north line of Southeast 200th Street
to the east line of 96th Avenue South; thence northerly
along the east line of 96th Avenue South to the north
line of Township 22 North, being the point of beginning;.
all situated in Township 22 North, Range 5 East W.M.,•_
in King County, Washington.
SECTION II: The establishment or maintenance of any slaughter
pens, stock feeding yards, hog pens, or the deposit or maintenance of

any uncleanly or unwholesome substance, or the conduct of any business
or occupation, upon the property hereinabove described, or the creating
or allowing of any condition upon said property or sufficiently near
said property to cause the aforesaid City water supply to be polluted or
the purity of said water or any part thereof to be destroyed or endangered,
is hereby prohibited and declared to be unlawful, and is hereby further
declared to be and constitute a nuisance.
SECTION III: Any person, firm or corporation who.shall do,
establish, maintain, or create any of the things or conditions hereby
prohibited, or shall do any of the things hereby declared unlawful,.shall
be deemed guilty of creating and maintaining a nuisance, and shall,further
be guilty of a misdemeanor; and any such person, firm or corporation
and/or maintaining
shall be subject to prosecution for creating Auch nuisance and/or for
committing such misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punish-
ed by a fine in any sum up to One Hundred Dollars ($100.00), or by im-
prisonment in the City Jail for any period up to thirty (30) days, or by
both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION IV: This Ordinance, in the defining of jurisdiction
and restricted area herein, shall not be deemed or construed to be in
derogati6n:_or limitation of any jurisdiction, restrictions, prohibitions,
rights, powers or areas subject thereto, otherwise existing under any
provision of law.
SECTION V: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage, approval, and publication.
