ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON RELd TING TO WADS AND SALARIES
OF CERTAIN CITY EMPLOYEES, DETERMINING AND FIXING THE BASE AND
CERTAIN RATES OF PAY
WHEREAS, since the adoption of the 1959 Annual Budget of the City of
Renton it has become necessary to clarify, revise and establish certain rates of
pay based on an hourly basis for the member$ of the Fire Department of the City of
Renton without increasing any salary or wage above the amount provided therefor,
having due regard to the provisions of RCW 35.33.120, as amended, and the effects
of Chapter 294 of the 1959 Session laws of the State of 11fashington, commonly referred

to as the "Washington Minimum Wage and Hour Acttt, now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON
AS FOLL(VS :

SECTION I: It is hereby found and determined that the above facts and
recitals are true and correct in all respects. Furthermore it is recognized that
the working hours of the members of the Fire Department are peculiar in nature and
different from those of other City employees inasmuch as members of the Fire Depart—
ment are required to be on duty for a continuous 24 hour shift, thus resulting in a
total work week of approximately 56 hours. R

SECTION II: There is hereby established and fixed an apprd;94a4e salary
schedule based on an holy rate of pay for ,all members of the Renton Fire Department
as follows:
For the purpose of computing the hourly rate of pay, based on a regular
56 hour work week, the following formula shall be used.
The total overtime hours worked multiplied by 12 and then added to
the total amount of straight time hours worked, all multiplied
by 52; the total sum thus computed shall then .be dix�ided into the
current annual salary as fixed and established in the annual
City Budget. I
The total compensation as computed by the above salary formula and so paid to
each Fireman for the regular 56 hour work week shall constitute and be the monthly
compensation for the purpose of computing all pension and fringe benefits, other
than wages, to which such Fireman is entitled.

SECTION III: It is further determined and hereby established that

the "base pay" of each fireman in the employ of the City of Renton is the hourly
rate of pay hereinabove set forth for such ;fireman. Until otherwise established,
it is recognized that the presently prevailing "work. weektt of such firemen is
56 hours.
