ORDINANCE NO. 1223
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, REGULATING THE
KEEPING OF DOGS IN THE CITY OF RENTON, IMPOSING LICENSE FEES, PROVID -
MG PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE, REPEALING ORDINANCE
NO. 1033, AND ALL OTHER ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH:
The City Council of the, City of Renton, Washington do ordain as
follows:
SECTION 1: It shall be unlawful to own or keep a dog of more than
four (4) months of age unless owner or keeper thereof shall have a valid
and subsisting license for each such dog.
SECTION 2: The annual fees for dogs over four (4) months of age
shall be as follows:
Each male dog
Each female dog
$1.00

Provided: that if accompanying the application for a license for a
spayed female dog there shall be a certificate from a licensed veterinary
surgeon, that said female dog has been properly spayed the annual license
fee shall be $1.00 for a female dog.
SECTION 3: Said license shall be obtained by making application to
the City Clerk, upon forms approved by the Clerk, and a license tag in
such form as may be approved by the City Clerk will be issued and said
tag must be attached to the collar worn by the dog so licensed.
SECTION 4: Any dog, either licensed or unlicensed, trespassing upon
any property so as to destroy or damage such property, shall be deemed
a nuisance and shall be impounded by the proper authorities of the City
of Renton, Such dog so impounded may be redeemed by paying to the City
Treasurer a trespass penalty of $2.00, if the dog was licensed, and $5.00,
if the dog was unlicensed, to cover the first such trespass. If the dog
is again found to be trespassing and damaging or destroying property the
owner will then be liable to arrest and be subject to the penalty

provisions of this ordinance.
SECTION 5: The City Council is hereby authorized to employ a dog
catcher whose duty it shall be to take up and impound all dogs running
at large contrary to this Ordinance and any dog so taken up shall be
held for two days and unless redeemed by payment of the fee for taking
up in the sum of $2.00, it shall be killed and buried by the dog catcher.
He shall receive a fee of $1.00 for taking up each dog running at large
contrary to this Ordinance and $1.00 for killing and burying the same.
SECTION 6: That the owner of any dog or dogs, or any person to whom
custody of the same has been entrusted, who shall permit said dog to
violate any of the terms and conditions of this Ordinance shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any
sum not exceeding $10.00.
SECTION 7: That Ordinance #1033, and all other ordinances and parts
of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 8: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect five (5)
days from and after its passage, approval and legal publication as provid-
ed by law.
