score.

Physical agility test complies with the PFAT test used throughout Washington State. Written exam is general-
knowledge based with a required passing score of 75%to be considered by the City of Renton. The oral board
consists of a set of structured general questions. There is a 70%passing score on the City's questions. The PST
score is weighted at 30%, and the City's test is weighted at 70%, for a total of 100%. Veterans preference points,
if applicable, are added to the final score. Successful candidates are "slotted into”their place according to their
score.

The Civil Service Examiner and six police officers went to Hawaii to recruit lateral entry police officers. Those
who handed in their applications also took the physical ability test,the written test and the Oral Interview. Some
candidates did not pass the physical ability test in Hawaii but passed the other parts of the exam, so they took the
PA later in Seattle, and 5 candidates were placed on the list.

Must have been a regular police office for a minimum of one year out of the last three years in order to be
considered. Must pass the written test,physical ability test and oral board in order to be placed on the eligibility
list.

delivering a letter of intent to the Civil Service Chief Examiner by 5:00 p.m. on January 31, 2007. Two
applicants withdrew from the process. The formal written test portion of the exainination was given and
proctored on March 14, 2007. The written examination was weighted at 30 percent. On April 14, 2007,
candidates participated in an assessment center administered by an assessment center developer, JMF &
Associates. The Assessment Center was weighted at 70 percent.

Assessment Center: The Assessment Center was administered on Apri14, 2007 at St.Mathew's Lutheran

oral interview,coaching/counseling, critical incident and a written review of PAP.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
■ Up to the top ten applicants whose experience and qualifications most closely meet the requirements of the

in a competitive selection consisting of an oral board interview weighted at 75°fo and a written assignment
weighted at 25%. The eombined pass point will be 70%. The oral board is scheduled for Ju1y 20,2007.

The testing process consisted of a two-day Assessment process. Day one(1)consisted of two different simulations.
Candidates had to obtain a 70%score or higher in each simulation to proceed in the process into Day 2. The second
day consisted of a Supervisory/Role Play Situation,Oral Presentation,and Structured Interview. Each test segment
counted equally(20%each)towards the final scare for those who proceeded. Also,a minimum score of 70%was
required for each dimension in each segment to be placement on the eligibility list. The candidate with the highest
overall final score(not including seniority points)established the 100%score with other candidate scores was
detertnined as a percentage of the top score. Passing candidates were placed on a two-year eligibility list,ranked
according to the total of their assessment center score plus their seniority points.

Graduation from a standard high school,vocational school or equivalent and employement with the Renton fire
Department for three consecutive years and regular status in present rank for one year or more. Valid Washington
