Bicycle Master Plan.
111. KICK OFF OF TRAILS & BICYCLE MASTER PLAN
John Hasty, Transportation and Leslie Betlach, Parks Director, were present to
initiate the kick off of the Trails and Bicycle Master Plan. This is the first
venture where the City has had two different departments working jointly on
one Master Plan. On May 30, 2007, the City will host the first public meeting to
gather community input. We are looking at an inter-connected plan of parks,
schools, trails, etc. The goal being to evaluate the existing network of trails.
We hope to design new maps that will link to the City website, provide safety
tips, and utilize a "safe routes to school" plan.
The goals include an emphasis on safety, develop routes between
neighborhoods, businesses and transit facilities, and capitalize on regional
connectivity. This will encourage healthy lifestyles through walking and biking
and allow the opportunity to enjoy nature.
Through meeting with the community we hope to identify destinations used for
both commuting and recreational purposes. Handouts were provided outlining
a timeline including Council and Mayor briefings.
