CROSS-USE STUDY UP-DATE—When Berk and Associates repeated the Cross-Use Study
between Renton Public Library and King County Library System(KCLS), they found that some
Renton Residents had been left out of the study. The figures from October were revised to
include those borrowers. The data collected in March yielded significantly different results,
more than doubling the apparent cost discrepancy of cross-use. KCLS's Business Manager
stated it was their intention to bill Renton Public Library for the reciprocal use agreement based
on the study's results. Berk and Associates concluded that the differences in the operations of
the two systems cannot be accurately captured in the study, making the cost comparison results
and how they are used open to discussion. When the draft repart is ready, Berk and Associates
will meet with the City and KCLS to present the results.
