MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER: The June 14, 2007,meeting of the Library Board at the Renton Public
Library was called to order by Lynne Shioyama at 7:00 p.m.
2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: John DuBois MOVED THAT THE AGENDA FOR June 14,
2007,be approved. SECONDED by Peter Hartley. The motion CARRIED.
3. REVIEW OF MINiJTES: John DuBois MOVED THAT THE MINLJTES OF May 10, 2007,be
approved. SECONDED by Peter Hartley. The motion CARRIED.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
5. COMMLTNICATIONS: None.
6. FINANCIAL REPORT: The May 2007 Renton Public Library Expenditure Status Report was
distributed to Board Members. Expenditures through May are on target at 42%of the annual
budget. The Library is acquiring five new databases through the Washington State Library that
can be accessed from either patrons' homes or the library. They are as follows:
1)Biography Resource Centers
2)Health and Wellness Resource Center
3)World History Resource Center
4)Consulta(Spanish language reference materials)
5) Informe(Spanish language magazine database)
7. MONTHLY REPORT: STATISTICS—The May 2007 Renton Public Library Statistics report
was distributed to the Board along with a Reference Question Chart showing number of patron
questions asked during each hour throughout the day.
ARCHITECH—Architect Mark Nelson visited Renton Public Library to assess space usage in
the front area of the library. The area will be rearranged to include more young adult shelving,
better display of new books, and a patron seating and reading area.

COMMLJNITY ACTNITIES—Library administration is participating in several community
events to increase public awareness of the Renton Public Library. The Library Director will
give a presentation at the Renton Kiwanis June 19 and will have a library table at Renton
Technical College's International Fair June 21. The library will be represented at many of the
City's neighborhood picnics throughout the summer.
WILL CONFERENCE—The Library Board received information on attending the annual
Workshop in Library Leadership Conference(WILL) September 26-28 in Kennewick, WA.
This event, designed for library trustees, is organized by the Washington Library Association
and the Washington State Library.
8. OLD BUSINESS: MASTER PLAN—Miriam Pollock and Associates submitted a 20-page
DRAFT report of the comments they gathered at the focus groups and public meetings held the
week of May 21 —25.
The citizen survey will be posted online July 8—21, 2007. It is very easy to use. A print
version of the survey will be available at both libraries and at various public outlets such as the
Renton Community Center and Senior Activity Center. The library is working on questions for
thesurvey.
The Master Plan retreat will be Saturday,August 4 and possibly Friday evening, August 3. The
Master Plan Steering Committee and entire Board will be in attendance. The Consultants will
facilitate the process of deciding what library services the community needs and the best ways
of providing those services.
CROSS-USE STUDY—Bette Anderson,Aaron Oesting, and Marty Wine will meet with I�ing
County Library System's Director,Bill Ptacek, and Berk and Associates June 25 to discuss the
Cross-Use report. City of Renton Administration is also meeting to clarify the City's position in
regard to the study.
YOUTH MEMBER—Tyler Morse visited the Board meeting. He is interested in government
and public service, and has applied for the vacant,youth Board Member position. The Library
Board is unanimous in recommending him for the position.
9. NEW BUSINESS: A Library Board page will be added to the Library's website. Information
such as the Board directory, minutes and Board openings will be posted.
10. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. The next regular meeting of the
Library Board is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Thursday,July 12, 2007, at the Renton Public Library.
