RENTON PUBLIC L,,,,.:ARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEEG – March 13, ?008
PREPARE TRAINING–The Crisis Prevention Institute created the Prepare Training to teach
people how to safely and effectively handle potentially violent situations at work. The
Washington State Library made the training available to public libraries around the state through
Continuing Education grants, and staff from the Renton Library system attended the all-day
workshop on March 7. Two Librarians from the Seattle Public Library facilitated the workshop.
The trainers used actual incidents that had occurred at our libraries as exercises and discussion
topics. The focus was how to handle problems that can occur when working with the public to
minimize the possibility of a situation escalating into an angry or even violent encounter.

progress of the Master Plan.
