MINUTES
l. CALL TO ORDER: The October 9, 2008, meeting of the Library Board at the Renton Public
Libraiy was called to oi-der at 7:00 p.m.
2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: John DuBois MOVED THAT THE AGENDA FOR October 9,
2008, be approved. SECONDED by Catl7erine Ploue-Smith. The motion CARRIED.
3. REVIEW OF MINUTF.,S: Amy Pieper MOVED THAT TI-IE MINUTES OF Septembel- I 1,
2008, be approved. SECONDED by Catherine Ploue-Smith. The motion CARRIED.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
5. COMMUNICATIONS: None.
6. FINANCIAL REPORT: The September 2005 Renton Public Library E.lpendittn•e Stcrtus Re��oi7
was distributed to Board Members.
7. MONTHLY REPORT: STATISTICS—The September 2008 Renton PuUlic Library Statistics
report was distributed to the Board. Usage of the library has increased in every category.
Circulation of library materials during the month of September increased 19.6% o��er September
2007.
8. OLD BUSINESS: MASTER PLAN- Library Director Bette Anderson and Board Membecs
John DuBois, Heather Nugent and Peter Hartley reported on the October 8 Committee of the
Whole meeting. Board Members received the materials that were distributed to the Council for
the meeting.
TURNING THE PAGE C'ONFER�NCE—Bette Anderson, Amy Pieper and Heather Nugent
attended the Gates Foundation-required Tiu�nrna the Page conference held on October 5-7, 2008.
The conference provided focused trainin� on planning and implementin`�an advocacy campai`�n
for libraries.

OPPORTUNITIES ONLINE GRANT—Bette had an opportunity at the Tir��ni�rg the Pcrge
Conference to ask questions specific to Renton about the matching fiinds required by the Gates
Foundation as a condition for receiving the grant. It appears as though the tunds being spent on
network cabling�vill qualify as matching funds.
New shelving and computer furniture for the Highlands Library have been ordered. Installation
of new nerivork cabling to accommodate the Gates Grant computers is scheduled for Nov�mber.
9. NEW BUSINESS: BOARD MEMBER OPENING—Commtmity Services received a youth
application from a senior at Hazen High School. The Board agreed to invite the applicant to attend
the November meeting.
10. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at �:45 p.m. The next regular meetin� of the Library
Board is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 13, 2008, at the Renton Public Library.
