contained in a small book that would fit into a bike handlebar pack. He wanted to
show this guide as an example for something that could be printed for our trail
system.

contains maps for King County, Snohomish, Pierce and Kitsap Counties. It can be

REPORTS
Parks Department: Leslie Betlach attended a meeting on May 4' for the Forever Green
Council Interconnected Trail System. The bulk of the people in attendance were from
Pierce County. The primary discussion included the Interurban Trail, Green River Trail
and the White River Trail and how missing pieces are being made. They received grant
money to work on the Interurban Trail connections. Leslie spoke about the Sam Chastain
Trail during this meeting. The Focus of this group is: 1) Consistency between different
government agencies. These agencies have different requirements and they are looking
to define and establish criteria so they can work on the same levels; 2)Regional Signage
—when the trail crosses jurisdictional boundaries the signage would all read the same so
it would be less confusing for public who frequent these trails;and 3)Regional
Maintenance—meaning the Cities involved could share maintenance responsibilities
(not just one Parks Department). The City of Renton has a similar agreement currently
with the Grandview Off-Leash Dog Park located in the City of SeaTac.
Margaret Feaster had a question regarding the county-wide (King County)trail system.
Is it for all users, meaning walking, bicycling, etc.? Leslie Betlach said they were
planning on a 12 ft. minimum path so it would be for all types of users.
Tri-Park Master Plan: Leslie Betlach announced tentative date for the next open house
is June 28'. Pete Maas, $ob Elliot and Dorothy Flower attended the last open house
meeting. There were some good comments made. There is concern about a"through"
connection from Renton Hill to Narco Property then to Carco Park. The citizens in
attendance indicated they would like synthetic turf for the ballfields and soccer fields.
There are currently three ballfields planned;however the public wants four ballfields.
Pete Mass encouraged other committee members to attend the next open house.
Ripley Lane Trail: Leslie Betlach advised committee members the trail will be closed
for resurfacing sometime in August, 2006. This is part of the Lake Washington Trail
along I-405. The City has an agreement with WSDOT,they maintain a portion of the
trail and the City maintains a portion. The City is only responsible for the Renton
portion. Roots from Cottonwood trees are heaving the path and it will be closed for
approximately one week for repair. There is no detour for this area. Leslie requested
contacts for Boeing Bicycle Club and the Cascade Bicycle Club (Cascade.org) so that she
could notify them of this closure.
Park Board: Pete Maas reported there was no official meeting for Park Board because
they did not have a quorum at the April meeting. There were a couple items Pete made
note of. Mazge Richter's memorial service was Friday, April 14th. Pete inquired as to
what role Marge Richter played in the City. Leslie Betlach mentioned that Marge Richter
had many roles within the City of Renton—she was on the Park Board, worked with the
Downtown Renton Association, Piazza, and also helped with the Veterans Memorial Park
and other projects and committees over the years.

Park Board (Cont'd.): Amplified music at Piazza request—the Park Rules and
Regulations do not allow amplified music at events, only at City sponsored events.
River Days will be held July 18' —July 23`dthis year. There was an announcement
made that there will be nothing held at the Piazza.
The Renton Skate Park was chosen as the best Skate Park in King County by King 5
News.
There are open positions for the Park Board. Pete Maas inquired as to who is eligible for
these positions. Leslie Betlach advised that these positions are open to Renton Residents
only; the positions are a three year term. Applications can be obtained on-line and are
collected by the Mayor's office. Interviews axe held and appointments made by the
Mayor with Council approval.

of garbage and there may be some homeless people staying there. Leslie Betlach
will refer this to Code Compliance.
