Resource Development:
The committee has been reviewing and researching grants, determining which grants are appropriate
for the Arts Commission. Jennifer Davis Hayes noted the date on the agenda for the Logan Avenue art
was incorrect and it was actually Tuesday, May 11. Doug Kyes suggested we also invite the Bicycle
Commission [Editor's note:This is the Non-motorized Transportation Advisory Committee]to attend.
Master Plan: Working on finalizing the draft of the master plan to share with the Commission and
others. Would like to receive feedback within a week or so to help finalize the document. In addition,
looking at the role of the Arts Commission for the master plan implementation. Jennifer passed out an
overview of the structure of the role the Commission would play and went over the ideas in the
document. A Commission matrix is being put together which will be sent out to the Commission soon.
It will help determine the existing members'skill sets and show were we need to build the strengths of
the Commission. Once the Master Plan document is final it will be presented to the City Council
Community Services committee. Pat Pepper noted that the role of the Commission in the master plan
needs to be clearly defined and agreed upon.
Renton River Davs: The A frames are ready. Fred Lund has submitted some initial designs which are
being reviewed. V1 can have the signs laminated. A&M Stamps is a good vendor for the hand stamp.
Origami will be available for the kids all three days. Britt& Dalia will finalize the arrangements.
Arts Grants: Nothing heard from 4Culture yet.
Renton FilmFrenzv: Exciting things happening. A couple of partnerships with Seattle University and the
Film School.
Renton School District: No update.
Workshop attended by Jennifer Davis Hayes and Liz Stewart, Dynamic Adaptability. Made lennifer
realize that we could try to build relationships with the individual schools in the district. Evelyn Reingold
has built a relationship with Maple Heights Elementary and Doug Kyes with Sierra Heights Elementary.
She asked commissioners to think about how they could connect to the schools.
Artist Ede: Britt felt that if it was opened up to ' mAwe+Pa il,v.P+
the minimum number ofrcu'ed to offer the course. If we wanted to offer it in the fall we
would need to move quickly to su mit a proposal for the workshop. It's a weekend workshop that
teaches professional development for artists.
Commission Bud¢et: No changes of note to the budget. Britt asked how we can be self-sustaining in
2011. Jennifer Davis Hayes stated that looking at grant opportunities would be an option. Pat Pepper
asked if the City was going to hire a staff person for the Master Plan. Jennifer said that if that would
happen, it would not be funded from City operating funds but need to come from grants. She does not
believe the Commission will be self-sustaining by 2011 but it is something to work toward.
NEW BUSINESS: Public Art at Transit Center, the TimePieces are in fact 4Culture public art. The cases
containing the art have failed and 4Culture is going to clean them. They will be takingthe art out as it's
not working in that location and will look to put something in its place later in the year.
