Renton River Davs: We have signed up for Saturday and Sunday. Doug and Evelyn have begun working
on it and will have something more concrete soon.
COMMISSION PROJECTS:
Carco Theatre Lobbv Displav: The artist reception was not well attended. The artwork was very good
and intriguing. Discussion ensued as to why some receptions are well attended and some not and a '
successful event comes down to marketing by the artist. Pat Pepper suggested we ask future artists to
bring a minimum of attendees in order to have a reception. Peter Hartley commented that the artist
reception meets our broader goal of creating a vibrant arts and culture environment in Renton and that
we work to make these receptions successful. Evelyn requested a Commissioner sign-up sheet for the
receptions and she would be more likely to attend. We will create a checklist for the artist to help them
through the process. The question was asked about offering wine at the reception. Alcohol is only
allowed by the City in designated areas and Carco Theatre is not one of those areas. We could post the
event on the City's Facebook page and utilize the RentonPatch. Sarah will take on the responsibility of
emailing a blurb to lennifer for each event so they can be posted on Facebook. VJ suggested that we
purchase a guest/visitors book so that we can track how many people are coming to view the artwork.
Peter Hartley will look into purchasing the book.
Librarv Desien Committees: Denise Zullig will represent the Arts Commission for the Downtown library
and Fred Lund will sit on the Highlands library board. They were asked to keep in mind art placement in
these locations.
Fred Mever HonorinPole: The re-dedication ceremony is May 7th,9 a.m. and all Commissioners are
encouraged to attend. The Mayor, Duwamish Chairwoman Cecile Hanson and Fred Meyer
representatives will be there to help rededicate the Honoring Pole.
Parks.Recreation.Oaen Space and Natural Resources Plan: All Commissioners were encouraged to
view the plan website and put your comments on the interactive map.
Combat Paner: Peter Hartley informed the Commission that the first session held at Compass Veterans
Center in Downtown Renton was for Veterans and their families. The Friday workshop was not well
attended because of school, but the weekend days were better attended. The second session was for
individual veterans and was also well attended. The Combat Paper process uses a very cool machine
that's a one of a kind that makes pulp from the old military uniforms which is then pressed to make
paper. They will have an interadive booth at the Spring Festival. Jennifer connected them with Linda
from Merrill Gardens and the first ever women marine lives there and she will connect the two of them.
They plan to hang some of their artwork in Luther's Table.
SIFF/ Renton FilmFrenzv: Jennifer passed out promotional materials for the Commissioners to pass
out. Please go on the Siff.net website to sign up for volunteering and to purchase tickets. The SIFF-
Renton Opening Night Screening and Gala is Friday, May 20, 7:30 p.m. and everyone is encouraged to
attend.
Art Show: Britt will travel to Olympia to remove artwork from the legislator's offices.

Commission will receive$8,000 from 4Culture's Site Specific program to pay to the Combat Paper

1°for Art: The Ribbon Cutting for Logan Avenue will be announced when the date is finalized.
Fundraisin: Peter Hartley noted that it would be good to connect with Friends of Renton Schools, they
have a breakfast this coming Thursday, there is a $100 suggested donation.
MASTER PLAN IMPLEMENTATION: The committee leads had a good meeting a few weeks ago. Doug
has been researching art camps. Peter Hartley has created a spreadsheet of all those who are interested
in being on the committee and where they are interested in helping. There was a good discussion
regarding the Building Awareness Committee and how each committee has tasks that are part of this
committee's responsibilities. The group will also consider the roles that the City staff play and where
they can best assist. The committees should look at the master plan tactics and prioritize them--this
would help us define where we need help. Jennifer will send Peter's revamped table and asked that
commissioners please review and prioritize those. We need help implementing strategies;the question
is which specific strategies do we need help with? This information will help us to develop a scope for
 the consultant.
NEW BUSINESS: None.
Public Art Brochure: Commissioners reviewed the new design of the Art Brochure and commented.
The light blue headings and the main font could be changed. Overall everybody liked it especially the
way the art was grouped together. Commissioners should e-mail any additional comments by Friday.
The brochure will help drive people to our website where we can list additional art and more detailed
information.
4 Cow Bride Art in South Renton: Doug showed sketches of cows. He will show them to the South
Renton Connections neighborhood group and he will make a paper mache model. He said they could be
made of cement.
Adiournment: The May 3, 2011, meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m. The next meeting will be held on
June 7,2011,at 4:30 pm.
