CALL TO ORDER: Commission Vice Chair Hartley called the meeting to order at 4:35pm. '
Guests included Andee Jorgenson from Allied Arts and Susanna Williams from Renton Technical College.
Guest speaker was Susanna Williams from Renton Technical College (RTC)who presented information
about the art programs at the College. RTC is interested in promoting an art display area at the College.
She is interested in partnering with RMAC. Susanna informed us that the College would be having an
"Open Doors" Open House on May 17 from 10 am to 7 pm. All are invited.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: COMMISSIONER PETER HARTLEY PRESENTED THE MINUTES FOR APRIL TO THE
GROUP AND ASKED IF ANYONE HAD ANY COMMENTS. DENISE ZULLIG MOTIONED TO APPROVE THE
MINUTES,SECONDED BY BILL HULS. COMMISSIONERS CONCURED, MOTION CARRIED.
' PUBLIC ART PIECE OF THE MONTH: Natalie Gress presented information on Jacob Elshin's "Coal
Miners" which is on dis la at the Hi hlands Librar . Natalie s oke about the artist and how it was

donated by the US Post Office.
CORRESPONDENCE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: Jennifer Davis Hayes passed around the folder for people
, to review. Other announcements included that the Allied Arts quarterly newsletter was published this
week. Jaris English has been nominated for President of Allied Arts.

Ad Hoc Committees
Fall Arts Equinox
The Fall Arts Equinox event is scheduled for September 20, 2012 from 6—8 pm. Ben will organize the
next planning committee meeting.
Renton River Days Booth:
No updates were presented by the planning committee. The booth shift sign-up sheet was passed
around. Please sign up for one or two work sessions in the booth.
Commission Projects
Carco Theatre:
The next exhibit is by watercolor artist Jan Tervonen and is on display from May 12 to June 22. There
will be no reception for this artist.
Library Architecture Desi�n Team:
The next Highlands Library Public Open House meeting is on May 12 from 6:30—8 pm. The decision on
location of the Downtown library will be on the August ballot.
SIFF/Renton FilmFrenzy:
There was a SIFF-Renton Preview FilmWalk on Tuesday, May 8,that drew over 75 people. The SIFF-
Renton Opening Night Screening&Gala will be held on Friday, May 18. Films will be screened at the
Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center from May 18 through May 24. Volunteers are still needed to take
posters,guides and to usher at the film screenings.
NEW BUSINESS
Earthworks Bicvcle Tour,lune 2:
This joint project with the Kent Arts Commission is moving forward. Arts Commissioners are asked to
volunteer at the booth at Renton's Waterworks Garden from 9:30—11:30 am and 11:30 am—1:30 pm.
Ben Andrews volunteered for the first shift; need 2 volunteers in each. Artist Lorna Jordan will be
providing guided tours of the artwork.
4Culture-LAA meetin� in Renton, Mav 24. 9:30 am—12:30 pm:
RMAC will host the King County-wide meeting of Local Arts Agencies (LAA) at Renton Civic Theatre. Jerri
will coordinate food. Jennifer recruited panel members to discuss successes,challenges and lessons
learned from working with diverse communities. All Commissioners are encouraged to attend.
"Make Art Happen in Renton" Small Grant Application:
The "Make Art Happen in Renton" Small Grant letter and application were presented for review and
approval. The deadline for Small Grant Applications has been moved to an earlier date to allow
additional time for projects to be completed. This will allow the opportunity for the applications to be
voted on at our River Days booth in July. BEN ANDREWS MOTIONED TO APPROVE THE LETTER AND
APPLICATION,SECONDED BY BILL HULS.COMMISSIONERS CONCURED, MOTION CARRIED.
Commission Retreat:
The retreat is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, at the community room at the Bristol Apartment
community. The focus will be on getting to know each other better and prioritizing the Arts&Culture

I Master Plan efforts. Please bring a piece of art that either you created or that inspires you. Jennifer will
send more information by email.
Adiournment: The May 1, 2012, meeting was adjourned at 6:35 p.m. The next meeting will be held on
June 5,2012, in the Conferencing Center at 4:30 p.m.
