Chair, Bill Larson called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Review of the March minutes for the 03/22/11 meeting. It was noted that the Lateral Eligibility List mentioned
"...five candidates..." and it should be changed to read"...nine candidates..."

EXAMINATION PROCESS:
The Renton Police Department received several applications on-line. Two (2)candidates requested to
be interviewed in the months of March and April. Since there are not any current openings, not all
candidates that apply are interested in receiving an oral board. Effective 1/26/10, candidates are no
longer required to take a written examination. (Candidates actual written reports will be obtained
during the background investigation phase.)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Must have been a regular police officer for a minimum of one year in the past 36 months in order to be
considered. Must pass the written test and oral board in order to be placed on the eligibility.
EXAMINATION CONTENT:
The oral board interview consists of a set of 15 structured questions, and the rating of five dimensions,
developed for an experienced police officer. A passing score of 70�0 or greater is required to be placed
on the eligibility list.

EXAMINATION PROCESS:
The Renton Fire& Emergency Services Department received 218 on-line applications. Twenty
candidates were invited to test. Twenty(20)candidates went through the testing process which
included a manipulative skills exercise and an oral board.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Graduation from a standard high school,vocational school or equivalent. Two(2)years of full-time paid
Firefighter experience or volunteer experience within the last 36 months. Must pass the manipulative
skills exercise at 70%to be invited to the oral board. Required to pass the oral board at 70�o in order to
be placed on the eligibility list.
EXAMINATION CONTENT:
The examination consisted of the following:
Manipu/ative Skills Exercise(worth 50%of the total score)
� The manipulative skills exercise was held on April 15 and 16, 2011. It required a 70% passing score to be
invited to the oral board. The raters of the manipulative skills exercise included Lieutenant Robert
Homan, Lieutenant Mark Seaver, and Deputy Chief Erik Wallgren.
Oral Board(worth 50%of the total score)
The oral board interview consisted of ten (10) structured questions, and the rating of two dimensions,
developed for an experienced firefighter. The oral board required a passing score of 70% or greater to
be placed on the eligibility list.
