Vice-President Mary B. Brown called the meeting to order at 10:00 A.M. Attendance was taken.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read.

SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR'S REPORT—Shawn Daly
• Reminder—Carco Show is May 12 & 13. Sign-up sheet available if you haven't signed-up
and if you forgot what day you volunteered, that too is available.
• Homer Vernishnick, a longtime Renton resident, is involved in the Renton Lions' Club. The
Lions' Club has a history of renting the Senior Center for various functions. Twice a year they do a
Pioneer Night and a Christmas Dinner with an invitation to all senior citizens providing them a free
dinner. They always paid the full price for the rentals. A month ago Homer asked to reserve the
Center for a Renton World War II Veterans' Party on the day after Veterans' Day, Saturday, November
12; which is available. They want to honor the World War II Veterans'. We have two forms—a Fee
Waiver and a Reduction Request; Homer filled out a form asking to waive or reduce the fee. Normally
we refer them on. I met with Tim and we thought the Advisory Board Members would like to take a
stand and waive or reduce the fees. This event will affect our senior veterans' in the community. As
staff we endorse and felt it appropriate to receive your approval or disapproval. My thought for this
event is to compromise by charging them the direct employee costs; approximately$25 per hour. This
is not a fundraiser; an event to serve the community; a one-time event. Vice-President Mary B. Brown
stated, "I think we owe them that courtesy and gratefulness for their service." All those in favor?
Motion passed.
• Debbie, Tim and I will present to Council tonight the Library remodel project. Michael Nolan
will make his presentation, much like he did to the Advisory Board, for their formal approval.
• About a month ago the question came up on, "how prepared are we in case of an emergency?"
We contacted the Fire Department and had a meeting with them on Friday, April 29. On June 21 we
are going to do at 11:00 AM an earthquake evacuation drill. It will be much like a real disaster and
involve everyone. Right after we will have a group meeting in the auditorium to recap the situation.

• Nutrition survey is finished and will put out within the week. We will borrow a comment box
from John Slaney.
• Received a report on the status of the Ikuta Foundation. We continually keep going up; it is
now at $690,000.
RECREATION COORDINATOR—Debbie Little
• Trip to Seaside Oregon Coast on May 3 thru 5;joined by five other senior centers.
• Erin our Fitness Trainer is on a short term disability leave thru May. We are fortunate to have a �
senior, Loni,who came in to talk with Shawn; she has the back ground to fill-in. She is right on top of it
and doing a great job.
• Kentucky Derby Luncheon on Wednesday May 4 at 11:00 am.
• Cher will have her cooking class—Phad Thai, a stir fry with rice noodles; May 4 at 1:30pm.
• Bingo on Thursday May 5, at 1:00 pm in the LMTG; approximately 60 people attend. ;
' • Mothers Day Luncheon on Friday May 6 at 1130am; a treat bag for each women.
• Workshop—IRA Required Minimum Distribution on Monday May 9 at 9:30am.
• Cougar Mountain Loop Hike on Tuesday May 10 at 9:OOam.
• Doubles Pool Tournament Thursday May 12 at 9:30am.
• Carco Senior Revue May 12 & 13.
RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT—Tim Williams
� Saturday was Arbor Days clean-up; Gene Coulon Beach received new trees and shrubs; Henry
Moses Aquatic Center locker rooms painted.
• Earthquake training on June 21. Shawn, I and a few other staff are going to Redmond on June '
10th for shelter operation training. Staying on top through t�ie Red Cross.

• Renton Reporter readers voted the Renton Se�Cerx�er for those who give exceptional
customer service. Coulon Beach runner up; Cedar River Trail and Henry Moses Aquatic Center were
mentioned. The Renton Senior Center got second runner-up for best fitness center.
COMMENTS:
Douglas Gregory thanked Shawn for maintenance cleaning up the fountain area. Rather than deal
with water iris's or gravel in the fountain are, we plan to fill it with concrete which will help keep the
filter from being jammed.
Vice-President Mary B. Brown adjourned the meeting at 10:45 AM.
