TRASURER'S REPORT Bank Statemen $13,482.26 Emergency fund 203.25 Petty Cash 20.23 Forgotten Badge fund 6.00 SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR'S REPORT—Shawn Daly • Shawn thanked Pat Baylor for helping with a man who collapsed in the front lobby area; we had to use the defibrillator on him;this was stressful on the staff. Mary B. Brown asked how long before emergency responded. Shawn said, "it seemed forever when working on some-one, guessed three minutes, four at the most." • Chris Stimpson, Recreation Manager, is stepping in for Tim today while he's on vacation. • A card, along with five checks amounting to $500, was received from family members of Clarice Kyle. The card said, "Shawn, thank you so much for the use of the Senior Center for mom's Memorial on March 4th. Patty was a huge help and everything went well. The enclosed checks are a donation we would like to make to the Center. Thanks again for my family and me. Patty Hansen • Biggest change to the By-Laws is the age from 55 to 50 years of age or older. Two weeks ago we did a five day survey to accomplish two things; 1) Get a better feel for how many people use the building each day. 2) Get an average age of the people using the facility? Found out both. Average age is 75 years; average of people signing-in daily is 330. In the near future we will do a membership card for all participants, much like a fitness center. We will have a scanner to scan membership cards which will remove all the paper work we presently are doing. At the end of each month we will be able to retrieve all the data we need. ` r Mike lolan was scheduled for today. Debbie and myself inet with Mike last week and went to a furniture store; met with people doing puzzles for in-put into chairs; talked about putting together a budget. Mike will meet with us as a group on April 18 with a nice presen- tation of fabrics, carpet samples and a drawn-out budget. • The Housing Fair in March was successful; it provided housing options for seniors in Renton. • Last week renewed Karen's Footcare contract for another year. • Dish warmers in the Kitchen do not work. Cher, Site Manager, opted not to have the dish warmers fixed. , • Sunda night/Monday morning at 1:00 AM received a call from the Renton Police. They Y indicated the door in the back was left unlocked and someone tried getting in. When I arrived there were three police cars. They went throughout the building but found no one. I secured the building and re-set the alarm. • Dorothy cook gave me another list of questions. 1) Why are people let in the coffee bar ' door before 9:00 AM? We try not to let anyone in before 9:00 AM. Policy is no one in the building before 9:00 AM. .Staff arrives at 8:00 AM; and we let people sit in the lobby. Those who are let in before 9:00 AM is the coffee bar workers Grace,Jerry and Swede who get the coffee ready;the other is AARP kitchen help; they arrive about 8:30 AM, get a cup of coffee and head to the kitchen. Tina, maintenance staff, has eight doors to open by 9:00 AM; she starts five minutes to 9:00 AM. I will suggest she open the front lobby area first. , 2) Would it be possible for those who want sandwiches be able to order them the day before? That way they could be sure to get a lunch that they want. Shawn is not sure how that works and not the person to ask. We have a Site Manager, Cher. That question needs to be asked directly to her for an answer. Second part- sometimes it is difficult to find a seat for lunch and getting a meal-to-go would be nice without a hassle. Why do the to-go customers have to wait until everyone else is served before they get their food? This is not McDonald's. The intent of our program is to eat lunch in our auditorium in a homey, warm atmosphere. It is the social aspect of our program. The intent is not to take a meal to-go and take ofF. Ourfirst obligation is to the people who come here sitting at a table for lunch. Take outs will depend on how many meals are available at the end of the lunch hour. If I'm wrong, see Cher. Doug asked if Cher could join us for five to six minutes once a month. Shawn said he didn't know if she could come monthly but possibly on a quarterly basis. Shawn will talk to Cher to join us. Ben said he got a little irritated when he read in the Renton Reporter it would cost 9 to 10 million to move the library from where it is at from a bigger building to a smaller building. The only plus side is getting rid of the old building by the theatre. When the Library goes down there three city blocks will be taken off the tax rolls. Who makes up the difference? You and I. COMMENTS: Pat Baylor sent out thank you cards for donations received on behalf of Irene Smith memorial. Mary Burns-Haley, Sandra Polley and I spent three hours working on photo albums. One more meeting and we should have everything in order. On March 7t"we tabled discussion of a fund . : i • raiser for supplying produce to the salad bar in Nutrition. Shawn is finalizing a survey to see if the salad bar is important to the people who have lunch here. He does not want to run a fund raiser if 80% of the people care less. Nutrition cutbacks eliminated the salad bar;and dessert with meals. Survey is in draft form and will ask for Cher's approval and then put out the survey for feedback. We have to be careful how much we help Nutrition out since they are Federally funded. They are completely separate. I have nothing to do with their staff, budget, etc. Much like a renter we provide the space and obligated to maintain the equipment. Beyond that, that is it. They are financially struggling. We are trying to find ways to increase their count. Lisa every two weeks has an activity built around the lunch hour. Elaine Koehler trying to do an audit but unable to pin down the Treasurer, Rosie Warren. I President Ben Cheney adjourned the meeting. ,—,.
