Brown, Mary Burns-Haley, Ben Cheney, Dorothy Cook, Eric Eastberg, Mary Ann Ellingson, Mary Lou Gilbert, Douglas Gregory, Ruby Griffin, Elaine Koehler, Emilie McCue, Sandra Polley, Rose Warren. President Ben Cheney called the meeting to order at 10:00 A.M. and asked members how they liked the new badge; explained if you forget your badge it will cost a quarter and that quarter goes into the Forgotten Badge Fund. Attendance was taken. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read. TREASURER'S REPORT--Treasurer, Rose Warren, reported the following: � Bank Statement $13,979.52 � Emergency Fund 203.25 Petty Cash 20.23 Forgotten Badge Fund 6.00 SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR'S REPORT—Shawn Daty • In the kitchen over the weekend our big walk-in cooler went out. Not sure when it went out,possibly Saturday night. Puget Sound Energy had it back on this morning by 6:00 a.m. Nut�ition is now deciding whether the food is good or not. • Debbie and I had a meeting with Nutrition. Fare Start, our new caterer, now provides meals. Renton has the largest Nutrition Program in King County. Our numbers are not going up,just holding their own. We are looking at ways to increase the count. We want to survey the people coming for meals to find out what we can do to increase our count; plus, get the word out through newspapers and the Renton magazine. • After 32 years the red tile on the kitchen floor is dull and the grout tooking bad. Two weeks ago a company completely updated the tiles. • Had a situation a week ago where a gentleman went directly to the Mayor and complained about the diesel fuel from the Access vans that drop off and pickup seniors. Shawn called Access to find out what their policy is. Policy states, "the driver is not to stay in the bus more than one minute while running the motor." Problem is they need to run the motor to activate the lift,which is 60%of the time;taking�ve to seven minutes loading and unloading seniors. Information was forwarded to Terry Higashiyama and the Mayor. Access was noti�ed; it is their program, policy and they need to mandate it. • Each member should have received a copy of the By-laws. We constantly look at up-dating the By- Laws when needed. There is a �eason now. Page four, section two states, "all regutar members of the committee must be 55 years of age or older." My question, do you want to keep it at 55 or go to 50 which is what we advertise the senior center as being at? Should reflect what is advertised. Last page of By-Laws states, "Section one... By-Laws may be amended by 2/3 vote of the members present at any regularly scheduled meeting of the committee, provided notification and a copy of the proposed amendment has been given to the members of this Committee at least seven days in advance of such meetin�'. It was moved and � second to vote on changing the,limit from 55 to 50 of the By-Laws at•next scheduled meeting. Motion carried. � • Members received a schematic on the remodel to the Library Lounge. It will update the look of the Library with new lighting, remove old tile with new, mounting television above the fireplace, new bookcases, storage units, new leather coaches, etc. • A lady came in and wants to place a box at the Senior Center to collect cell phones for soldiers. The phones will be taken to a company that reimburses them with calling cards they give to the soldiers. Problem is if we allow this, other organizations will want to come in to do something similar. I am not endorsing this because it will only open up a can of worms. We do allow the Lions Club to collect glasses but turned them down to put a box to collect newspapers. Discussion followed. • Received two checks in the amount of$55 in memory of Adrian Morris. • February 21 is President's Day and a Holiday for the Nutrition staff; no lunch will be served. The RSAC staff wil) serve blueberry pancakes, sausage and fruit between 10:00-11:30 am. President Ben Cheney passed out a revised committee assignment list that are stated in the By-Laws. A description of each committee's duties followed. Doug has been good enough to prepare water and coffee for the committee meetings for quite a long time. Would someone like to volunteer to take over this responsibility? Sandra Polley volunteered. RECREATION COORDINATOR— Debbie Little • City of Renton proclaimed February"Renton Heart Month". Renton Fire& Emergency Services Department hosting three educational workshops: 1) Signs &Symptoms of a Heart Attack&Stroke on 2/9 from 12:30-1:30; 2) Healthy Diet on 2/16 from 12:30-1:30; and 3)The Importance of Exercise on 2/23 from 12:30-1:30. • Valentine's Day Luncheon &the Golden Years Luncheon (couples married over 50 years). 2/14 at 11:30 am. • Presentation by Dan Keilogg—"Do you have all your legal documents in order?2/15 12:30 pm SMTG • Cooking with Cher on 2/16 from 1:30-4:30 pm ... Ratatouille with Salmon. • 50's Dinner& Dance on March 3/16. Servers will be the "Teen Council." Cost is$2. RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT—Tim Williarns � I don't know if Michael Nolan would want to come and do a presentation so you have an opportunity to talk more on what he is doing on the project. Shawn indicated Michael is semi-scheduled to attend the March 7th meeting if everything is in order. • If staff and committee members will start thinking about how you are going to spend the Ikuta Fund. � What is our future five to ten years down the road of spending that money? Are you going to allow it to grow � or do little projects in between ail that growth? �'', • Leslie Betlach, Parks Planning& Natural Resources Director, one af her responsibilities has been the "Parks, Recreation, Op2n Space & Natural Resources Plan." There is a visionary meeting on March 29, at 6:00 pm at the RCC. This meeting is going to be a big crossroad to see where the plan will go. f want to have Leslie come talk at one of the future meetings to let you know what she is doing and how it is going along. Recreation has done a poor job in collecting data and information. In six years we want to have information on the Senior Center, Community Cenier, and how many people are going to the Highlands Neighborhood Center. We are going to be doing some changes here at the senior center. I'm working with Debbie and Shawn in ways we can automate when people come in to use class rooms, drop-in non-fee or fee based,we want to make sure we are capturing that information. .
