' STAFF: Shawn Daly, Debbie Little, Tim Williams. GUEST: Carmel Camerini. President Ben Cheney called the meeting to order at 10:00 A.M. Attendance was taken. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as corrected. Ben Cheney mentioned possibly changing the membership in the By-Laws from 15 to 11. Next board meeting, November 7tn TR�ASURER'S REPORT—Treasurer, Rose Warren, reporte�! the fiollowing: • Debbie and Rosie received a call from the police; they found the woman 2 % hours later who broke into Rosie's car stealing the brief case containing the Advisory Board's checks, ledgers and statements; items found and returned were our stamp, black ledger and the emergency fund booklet. She wrote two checks in the amount of$500 and $250; forged Rosie's name and told the police Rosie was her grandmother. A new bank account has been set-up. Bank Statement $13,052.07 Emergency Fund 203.25 Petty Cash 20.23 Forgotten Badge Fund 6.25 R�CREATiON SUPERVISO�'S REPORT—Shawn Daly • At the last meeting Marge indicated she wiil step down as secretary next year. History shows the secretary position has a difficult time for anyone to step up. I would like to introduce Carmel Camerini; she is interested in volunteering to take the secretary position for the Advisory Board. This will not be a voting or member position for Carmel. � Ben is correct. We are in a situation where we need to make a decision on the number of inembers on the Advisory Board or make an effort to recruit new members. After speaking with Tim, I think we need to attempt recruiting people. We have one person on a list that is qualified to step in when a vacancX occurs. Not knowing how many positions will be vacant it will be a good idea to recruit and go through the interview process. Discussion followed. It was moved by Mary Lou Gilbert, second by Pat Baylor to start the process to advertise for applicants on the Advisory Board. Motion Carried. Anyone interested in being on the Advisory Board must attend one committee meeting prior to the interview process. • The past two years have been tight economically; causing eliminating the Volunteer Dinner and , replace it with a Dessert Social: Staff would like to return to a dinner this year. There is nothing more . important than the volunteers in this facility. We need to show our appreciation. Volunteer Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, December 7th, from 4:30-6:30 PM. Asking for financial support of$2,100. It was moved by Pat Baylor second by Elaine Koehler to provide $2,100 for the Volunteer Dinner and Entertainment. Motion Carried. • We owe $450 for the movie, "Grease," shown here at the Senior Center this past summer. A motion_ was made by Sandra Polley, second by Emilie McCue to authorize a check for $450, payable to the City of Renton, for the movie "Grease." October 26th—Renton Historical Fundraiser. 4. October 29th—Senior Craft Bazaar. 5. November 3�d—Citizen of the Year. 6. November 30th—Board & Commissions event/dinner. 7. November 24th— 16th Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner sponsored by Renton Rotary. • Per Pat Baylor's request, new outside ashtrays instailed. I s Question was asked how the Advisory Board gets their money. Answer: we receive donations from Wills and Memorials. RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT—Tim Williams ' e Community Services is being re-accredited. The National Recreation & Park Association sends a team out from different areas of the United States to view our records and documents which includes the Renton Senior Center, Recreational Services, Renton Community Center and Carco Theatre. This helps us to update records and stay in compliance with our manuals and lead us into the next 15 years. They arrive on December 5th then start their process on December 6tn • Upcoming events: 1. Boo Carnival at RCC on 10/29 at 10:00 AM. 2. Trick or Treat in downtown Renton at 1:00 PM on10/29. - 3. Boy who Cried Wolf at Carco Theatre 10/29 at 7:00 PM. 4. Gene Coulon Ciam Lights lighting December 2"d 5. Piazza Tree Lighting December 4th at 5:00 PM. a The Ikuta Fund throu h the Renton Communit Foundation rovided fundin for the Librar remodel. I g Y P g Y propose we look at the fund to see what projects we want to spend the money on. The purpose of the fund, according to the Ikuta Wili, is to be used for the support of programs for the Senior Center; not for City of Renton capital funds. Do we only want to touch the interest and not the principal? Shawn asked the sub- committee, Douglas Gregory, Ben Cheney and Marjorie Cochran-Reep,to meet for five minutes to schedule a meeting to discuss future projects. RE�R�ATION COORDINATOR'S RE�ORT— Debbie Little • New computer instructor, Tyler, starts today 10/17. • "How To Relax Tight Muscles So You Don't Hurt Any More," 10/18. o Book Club, "Water For Elephants," by Sara Cruen 10/19. • Custer's Corner with Trendy Topics; conversation on current events and issues, 10/19. • Trip —Holiday Food & gift Festival at Tacoma Dome, 10/20. COMMENTS: Dorothy Cook mentioned the Library Lounge is not occupied as much as before the renovation. Emilie McCue asked if Styrofoam cups could be returned to the coffee bar area as people are walking off with the ceramic cups. Answer was, not at this time. Sign was suggested, "you wouldn't take a cup home from a restaurant, don't take ours." Mary Burns-Haley was excited that former Mayor Kathy Koelker will speak about the Renton's Sister Cities program at the next AARP meeting on 10/21. � ' i � Mary Lou Giibert asked how we advertise openings on the Advisory Board. Shawn indicated usually through the brochure, flyers, channel 21 and local newspaper. By-laws state we must advertise a minimum of two weeks; this time we will advertise for a month. Pat Baylor stated Marilyn Steiger, RSVP volunteer, is retiring and I will repiace her efrective this month. Pat's sub-committee will meet on October 2�th at 9:30 AM. Elaine Koehler received $100 to purchase Get Well and Sympathy cards for the center; unable to spend full amount; returning$50 to Rosie. As meeting was ending an announEement of a prize was made for using the Go Card.
