CI ti LREAS, the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA desired to
have Eighth Avenue North., a dedicated street in the City of
Renton, King County, Washington, improved and extended to serve
.4. as as a Military Access Road under the National Defense Act; and
';WHEREAS, in order to accomplish this purpose an
Agreement dated March 25th 1942 was duly entered into between
the NORTHERN PACIIIC RAILWAY COMPANY, the CITY of RENTON and
The Department of Highways of the STATE OF WASHINGTON;
and
WHEREAS, this Agreement provided that "Grade crossing
flashing light signals shall be installed at said,crossing, to
be paid for out of Access Road funds allocated to said project
74 as provided in a separate agreement to be entered into between
the Railway Company and the State"; and

WHEREAS, the War Production Board has finally de-
clined the Railway Company's application for necessary materials
to construct said signals; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Service of the
State of Washington has accordingly issued another order under
Cause No. F.H.-7559 dated Dece::ber 15th 1942, to the effect that
in view of the action taken by the War Production Board the
clause hereinabove quoted and referred to be stricken from said
agreement of i"arch 25th 1942, and that in lieu thereof another
proviso be inserted as hereinafter provided;
NOW THEREFORE, it is hereby mutually agreed by and
between the parties hereto that the aforesaid Agreement of March
25th 1942 is hereby modified and amended so as to eliminate and
cancel the above quoted clause relating to the installation of
flashing light signals which clause is hereby made null and void
and of no effect and to substitute in lieu thereof the following
clause; "That standard reflectorized sawbuck signs shall be erected
on both sides of the crossing proper. "
IN WITNESS WHEREOF the parties hereto have signed and sealed

Gentlemen:
Attached, for your records, is the fully executed Amendment
to Easement No. RW 4278 from the Northern Pacific Railway
Company, which provides for the substitution of standard
reflectorized sawbuck signs to be erected in lieu of the
flashing light signals as required in the original agreement
dated March 25, 1942.
