Gregg,
This was to retrofit Airport 1 with an 800 MHz radio (police/fire), city radio, and aviation radio. We
found that during the Airport drill (and the most recent crash) that the ability to listen to all radio
chatter was/would be beneficial to keep track of multiple response efforts. We purchased this item
because it is similar to the police sets that combines the light bar control with siren/loudspeaker (for
wildlife harassment and to be able to hear radio chatter while outside of the vehicle). The was to
also to help with a clean installation. The Signal Shop was pretty upfront that they were able to do
the install without it, but it would be pretty clunky with external switches and such. With the
reduced real estate due to the floor style shifter, as opposed to the police column shifter, we felt it
was a needed piece. You will also see the purchase request for the radios themselves (if you haven’t
already), which were quite expensive due to their nature.
Hopefully this helps clarify the necessity,
Thanks,
Jason

I attended the Council Finance Committee meeting today. They had a question about
one of the vouchers: an $835 cost for an airport siren. It looks like the Signal/Sign shop
helped with the acquisition/installation. Please provide some information about this
which I can provide to the Finance Committee. Thanks!
