FrancoResidenceRenton,WashingtonLimitedGeotechnicalReportnorthern-facingsteepslopethatisapproximately30feettallbasedonreviewoftopographicinformationfromtheKingCountyiMapwebsite.Theslopedescendsataninclinationestimatedtobefrom80to100percent.Theareaisroughlytriangularandmeasuresabout10feetwideatthetopandnarrowstoapointabout15feetdowntheslope.Theareaismostlycomprisedofexposedsoilwithscatteredconcreterubblepiecesacrosstheslopewithsometopsoilandlandscapingdebris.Asmallpileofstackeddriedwoodtreebranches/limbswaspresentatthetopoftheslope.Establishedvegetationoneithersideoftheareaconsistsofivy,smallfernswhichprovidegroundcover,andpredominantlylarge-diametertreesthatprovideathickoverheadcanopy.Theslopeisrelativelycontinuouswithsimilarslopeinclinationandvegetationonadjacentpropertiestotheeastandwestofthesite.WereviewedLightDetectionandRanging(LIDAR)data,whichisaremotesensingtechnologythatmeasuresdistancetoatargetbyilluminatingthattargetwithapulsedlaserlight,andmeasuringthereflectedpulseswithasensor.ReviewoftheLIDARtopographydoesnotindicatehistoriclarge-scalelandslidingatoradjacenttothesite.CityofRentonSensitiveAreasMap(November12,2014)indicatesthatthesiteandneighboringpropertiesareconsideredtohavea“Moderate”landslidehazardseverity.SUBSURFACECONDITIONSWeinterpretedsubsurfaceconditionsatthesitebasedonreviewofavailablegeologicmappingandobservationsmadeduringoursitereconnaissance.Handprobingwitha¾-inchdiametersteelt-rod,intotheslopeofabout24inchespenetrationindicatesthesurficialsoilsareloose.Geologicmappingindicatesthesitetobeunderlainbypre-Fraserfine-graineddeposits(DerekB.Booth,KathyA.Troost,andAaronP.Wischer,GeologicMopofKingCounty,Washington,March2007).Thepre-Fraserfine-graineddeposittypicallyconsistsofglaciallyoverriddensiltandclay.CONCLUSIONSANDRECOMMENDATIONSInouropinion,theactionofplacingtheconcreterubblepiecesonthesteepslopebelowyourpropertyhasnotincreasedtheexistinglandslidehazardrisk.Thebiggestissueinouropinionwouldbeprotectingthisareafromfutureerosion.Werecommendrevegetationoftheportionoftheslopethathasbeendisturbedtominimizethepotentialforerosion.Giventherelativelysmallareaandsteepnessoftheslope,practicalrepairoptionsaresomewhatlimited.Inouropinion,themostcost-effectiveapproachgiventheshadyconditionsduetothevegetationcanopy,wouldbetoplantsimilarnativevegetationinthisareathatexistsontheslopesuchasfernscombinedwithanerosiongeofabricsuchasjutematting.WhileuseofageocellproductcouldbeconsideredforJuly25,2019ASSOCIATEDEARTHSCIENCES,INC545/ms-190275E001-2-Pmjects20190167KEWPPage2
