Verizon – SEA Test Flight Proposal
Project Description
Verizon Wireless proposes to construct an unmanned telecommunications facility at the City
Parking Garage at the Landing located at 1203 N. Landing Way, consisting of (3) panel
antennas, and sleepers mounted equipment on a 47.3’ structure. In addition, Verizon proposes to
place (3) small microwave antennas within a stealth canister assembly mounted on the SW
stairwell canopy at the upper deck of the parking garage. Verizon is working with The City of
Renton via the Property Management Company for The Landing on the project which is located
in the Urban Center (UC) zone.
Concealment technology is proposed to screen the proposed microwave antennas and to
consolidate them inside a canister on rooftop regarding reduction of the profile. In addition,
Verizon proposes flush mounted panel antennas on the side of the side of the garage on the retail
aspect of The Landing. The use of flush mount and paint to match the color of the garage will
minimize the profile of the antennas to blend in with the architecture of the garage and adjoin
structures.
The decrease in number of antennas and number of electronic equipment cabinets (please see
plans) as compared to most WCFs, lessens the footprint of the proposed facility and as a result
serves to mitigate potential impacts while enabling the ability for Verizon to provide adequate
wireless services to the campus and community, and improve the Verizon Network performance
within the City of Renton.
Considerations
Commercially zoned Urban Center (UC) property with mixed uses in an area, with high
traffic that include; businesses, retail stores, restaurants and housing.
Proposal will not negatively impact parking however will require 1 parking space at the
upper deck of the parking garage.
Compatible with the use of the property and surrounding properties.
Proposed panel antennas shall be flush mount on the building, and will not negatively
impact the building quality or surrounding area visually, as antennas and equipment shall
blend in to surroundings.
The Proposed (3) microwave antennas shall be concealed inside a stealth canister.
The proposal is in compliance with all Federal, State and Local law ordinances including
FAA and FCC.
The proposal does not include any use or activity incompatible use of an airport or
airfield since the proposed structure is less in height than the other existing structures in
the area.
The proposal will not result in any negative impacts on the human or natural
environments, since the facility is in effect a utility on a parking structure and provides
essential wireless communication services and benefits.
The proposal is to enhance the existing Verizon service as soon as possible given the
need for adequate wireless service to the area during peak demands.
