Total cash/investment balance was $4,606,236.88. MONTHLY BILLS AND PENSION PAYMENTS MOVED BY CHRISTENSEN, SECONDED BY PHILLIPS, THE BOARD APPROVE THE PENSION/MEDICAL PAYMENTS FOR FEBRUARY 2008, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $46,811.76 TO BE PAID FROM THE FIREMEN'S PENSION FUND. CARRIED. UNFINISHED BUSINESS At the Board's request, Terri Shuhart explained the City's Medicare premium reimbursement policy, and why the LEOFF retirees had been advised against signing up for Medicare Part"D" (prescription drug benefit) when it became available. According to Shuhart, a$5,700 prescription drug cost must be incurred annually before such coverage would be cost effective. With the City being self-insured, she explained that paying the prescription drug expense directly, rather than paying premium reimbursement, was more cost-effective for all. Discussion ensured. It was pointed out that Firemen's Pension Fund members are reimbursed for prescription drugs necessary for their retirement disability only, however, it would be up to the Board to determine whether or not to extend Medicare f. *wow 14*440 Part"D"premium reimbursement anyway, as an additional benefit. Bruce Phillips offered to find out what prescription drug costs the Firemen's Fund retirees are incurring outside of those eligible for reimbursement from the Firemen's Pension Fund.
