BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Attending: Doug Brownlow, Jessica Kelly, Lynne King, Mike Lennox, Elizabeth P. Stewart, and
Colleen Lenahan.
Absent: Laura Clawson, Denise Dhakal, Rhea Kimble, and Betsy Prather.
Call to Order, Intro, Guest Speaker
President Colleen Lenahan called the meeting to order at 5:37 PM. Doug Brownlow opened the
meeting with a group question: "What is your favorite outdoor area in Renton or the
surrounding area?" Attendees shared their thoughts—including Downtown Renton, Gene
Coulon Beach Park, Cougar Mountain, and Waterworks Garden, among others—and discussed.
Jessica Kelly volunteered to ask the October question.
News, Updates, and Public Comments Information
Elizabeth Stewart provided a Museum report.
• As a final update on the direct mail appeal it was noted that the direct mail appeal
resulted in over $5,000 in contributions. This was very successful given expectations
and the Museum is excited to use the proceeds on upcoming projects.
• A coordinator from the EPA stopped by to tour the Museum and discuss with Elizabeth
Stewart. The EPA coordinator is in charge of the Quendall Station Superfund cleanup
site on Lake Washington in Renton.
• Colleen Lenahan mentioned she is taking a graphic design class at Bellevue College and
intends to perform some design work on the Museum website.
Review and Approval of Minutes Action Item
Colleen reviewed the August minutes.
• Jessica Kelly moved to approve the meeting minutes as submitted; Lynne King
seconded the motion. All approved the motion, none opposed, none abstaining.
Work session Action Item
(1) Due to Board member absences, the committee assignment discussion will be moved to
the October 2019 meeting.
(2) Colleen Lenahan led a discussion regarding Board members' experience with Asana
(project tracking platform) so far.
• Trustees commented that Asana is not as user-friendly as it could be and that it can be
difficult to find specific documents.
• Suggestions made to make efforts to interface with Google Docs.
• The Board decided to commit to using Asana through the fundraising auction in October
2019 and then will revisit the topic.

• Colleen Lenahan reminded everyone to "check off" completed tasks in Asana upon
completion.
(3) Jessica Kelly led a discussion on dinner auction progress.
• Trustees reviewed acquisition of auction items and indicated what desserts they will be
bringing.
• Elizabeth Stewart reminded everyone to complete donation forms for all donated
auction items. Completed forms will be needed no later than October 3. Auction item
value and donor are the two most important pieces of information to include.
• Jessica Kelly then led a discussion regarding the dessert items that board members plan
on submitting.
• Elizabeth Stewart reminded everyone to continue pushing ticket sales in person and on
social media.
• Elizabeth Stewart noted that volunteers will be needed to help setup beginning at 4:30
pm on Tues., Oct. 8. Anyone available to help should plan on arriving then to assist.
Mission Moment Information
Elizabeth Stewart discussed the mission moment, highlighting Stephanie Snyder as the new
Museum Office Aide, She also discussing the upcoming "La Causa" event and the new
Smithsonian poster exhibit, Bittersweet Harvest, about the WWII-era Bracero Program.
Adjournment
Lynne King moved to adjourn the meeting, Mike Lennox seconded the motion. Meeting
adjourned at 7:02 pm.
