Subject:Comments on PSE"s Energize Eastside permit application
Date:Sunday, March 11, 2018 2:22:22 PM
Dear Ms. Ding,
We are writing to state that we definitely oppose PSE’s Energize Eastside project. We ask the City of
Renton to NOT approve this project for the following reasons.
1. There are a number of alternative solutions to transform the electric utility industry through the
use of new technologies; therefore the per capita demand is declining – not growing. Let’s pursue
creative alternatives for obtaining and maintaining energy.
2. “Energize Eastside Project will not measurably improve reliability on the Eastside and may in fact
significantly increase other risks. It is a hazard to install new 230kV transmission lines (four times the
power transmitted in current 115kV lines) along with huge new steel towers, right in the same right-
of-way and just slightly above the aging Olympic Pipeline Company’s petroleum pipelines that
transport millions of gallons of jet fuel under high pressure daily.”
3. It is unfair for local users/taxpayers to pay higher electricity cost to build new transmission lines so
that PSE, an Australian-owned company, can profit by providing low cost electricity to Canada.
In conclusion, we urge the local city governments to put the local U.S. residents and the State of
Washington first by keeping in mind health and safety factors, affordability, character of
neighborhoods, protection of the environment, and no appreciable advantage to Washington state
residents. We reach out to say, let’s do the right thing for today as well as for tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Yvonne Pipkin
