Subject:RE: Franchise work in S 2nd St - comcast
Scott,
As related to Downtown Utility Improvement Project (DUIP), the line along the south side of 2nd, under the sidewalk is
not impacting us. We do have a potential issue with the crossing of second however. As part of DUIP we are proposing
a new sanitary sewer main and a new water main in second. The 12” water main is designed at minimum 4’ cover. The
sewer is designed for approximately 6.5’ cover (7.19 to invert) (getting slightly deeper as it heads east.
I would suggest they keep their conduit at 36-42” cover (NOT minimum). That give a less than a foot clearance over the
proposed water. They could try to be between 5.5’ and 6’ deep to get between our utilities but that might be a narrower
window and hard to judge since there is nothing there yet. We can work with the assumption that there is enough
flexibility in the 2” conduits to get our mains in if it is close but I would like to avoid them having to relocate if there is a
conflict.
Also a storm heads up. The storm manhole they show near Pit-1 is about correct. The storm manhole to the west is in
the sidewalk (north of shown). I don’t think much issue but the storm line at Pit-1 is a little further north than shown.
You can discuss further with Ann or me if necessary. Thanks
Michael A. Benoit
