LUMINARIES WILL BE INSTALLED ON THE EAST FRONTAGE OF THE NEW MERRILL GARDENS BUILDING ALONG WILLIAMS AVE S. THE LUMINARIES
SELECTION AND PLACEMENTS SHALL MEET THE CITY OF RENTON ZONE STANDARDS FOR DOWNTOWN STREETSCAPE INCLUDING MINIMUM LIGHT
LEVELS AND UNIFORMITY RATIO REQUIREMENTS.
GENERAL NOTES
1, ALL WORK SHALL BE COMPLETED IN THE ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY GUIDELINES AND STANDARDS, STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, SPECIAL
PROVISIONS AND THESE PLANS.
2. THE LOCATION OF ALL LUMINAIRES, JUNCTION BOXES AND CONDUIT SHOWN ON THIS PLAN ARE FOR GRAPHIC PRESENTATION ONLY AND
FINAL LOCATIONS SHALL BE DETERMINED BY THE ENGINEER IN THE FIELD. ALL NEW CONDUIT SHALL BE PLACED WITHIN CITY OF RENTON
RIGHT—OF—WAY. ALL NEW POLE FOUNDATION LOCATIONS SHALL BE APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO EXCAVATION. AFTER EXCAVATION,

4. ALL NEW JUNCTION BOXES INSTALLED IN SIDEWALKS SHALL HAVE LOCKING AND SKID RESISTANT LIDS.
5. EXISTING OR HIGHER ILLUMINATIONS LEVELS SHALL BE MAINTAINED BY USING EXISTING OR TEMPORARY ILLUMINATION UNTIL THE NEW SYSTEM
IS OPERATIONAL. THE CONTRACTOR IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING A CLEARANCE ZONE OF 15' AROUND EXISTING AERIAL POWER
LINES DURING CONSTRUCTION. COORDINATE WORK WITH THE POWER COMPANY.
6. JUNCTION BOXES FOR LUMINAIRES SHALL BE LOCATED PER POLE/JUNCTION BOX LAYOUT DETAILS OUTLINED ON SHEET E3.0 AND E3.1.
7. MAINTAIN A MINIMUM OF 4' CLEARANCE BETWEEN PROPOSED CONDUITS AND TREE CENTERLINES. FOR TRENCHING DETAILS.
8. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT CITY OF RENTON MANAGER ERIC CUTSHALL (425) 430-7423 PRIOR TO DISCONNECTION OF POWER TO
EXISTING LUMINARIES. CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH CITY PUBLIC WORKS TO PROVIDE POWER TO NEW LUMINARIES.
9• CONTRACTOR SHALL INCLUDE POLE ID NUMBER AND GPS COORDINATES ON AS—BULT DRAWINGS.
10. ALL WORK SHALL BE CONSISTENT WITH UTILITY AGENCY REQUIREMENTS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT ALL PERTINENT UTILITY AGENCIES
48 HOURS BEFORE COMMENCING WORK AND SHALL COORDINATE WITH AFFECTED UTILITY AGENCIES THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT.
11. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO EXISTING UTILITIES. THE CONTRACTOR AHALL NOTIFY THE AFFECTED UTILITY
COMPANY AND THE CITY IMMEDIATELY UPON DAMAGE.
INSTRUCTION TO BIDDERS
1. IT IS MANDATORY FOR THE CONTRACTOR TO VISIT THE SITE AND REVIEW
THE EXISTING SYSTEM AND CONDITIONS IN ORDER TO BID THIS PROJECT.
2. DESIGN DRAWINGS ARE SCHEMATIC. THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT THE
SITE PRIOR TO BIDDING OR AWARD OF CONTRACT TO INSPECT EXISTING
FIELD CONDITIONS. THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL INCLUDE ALL LABOR AND
MATERIALS NECESSARY FOR FIELD MODIFICATIONS DUE TO EXISTING
CONDITIONS.
3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT THE ARCHITECT, ENGINEER OR OWNER
PRIOR TO BIDDING FOR INTERPRETATIONS AND CLARIFICATIONS OF THE
DESIGN AND INCLUDE IN HIS BID ALL COSTS TO MEET THE DESIGN
INTENT. CLARIFICATIONS MADE BY THE ARCHITECT, ENGINEER OR OWNER
AFTER BIDDING WILL BE FINAL AND SHALL BE IMPLEMENTED AT
CONTRACTOR'S COST.
4. BIDDING CONTRACTORS SHALL HAVE A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF LOCAL
CODES AND ORDINANCES AND SHALL INCLUDE IN THEIR BIDS THE COSTS
FOR ALL WORK INSTALLED IN STRICT ACCORDANCE WITH GOVERNING

DIVISION 26 - ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS
1. GENERAL CONDITIONS:
A. THE GENERAL CONDITIONS, SUPPLEMENTARY CONDITIONS AND SPECIAL
CONDITIONS ARE A PART OF THIS CONTRACT AND APPLY TO THIS SECTION
AS FULLY AS IF REPEATED HEREIN.
2. SCOPE:
A. THIS SECTION OF SPECIFICATIONS INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:
ALL LABOR, TOOLS, APPLIANCES, MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED TO
FURNISH AND INSTALL THE COMPLETE INSTALLATION SHOWN ON THE
DRAWINGS FOR THIS SECTION OF THE WORK AND/OR IN THE FOLLOWING

3. CODES AND REGULATIONS:

LISTED OR LABELED AS CONFORMING TO APPROVED PUBLISHED STANDARDS
BY UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES WHERE SUCH LISTING OR LABELING
SERVICE IS AVAILABLE FOR THE CLASS OF MATERIALS OR EQUIPMENT.
WHERE APPLICABLE, LISTING OR LABELING SHALL APPLY TO THE COMPLETE
ASSEMBLED EQUIPMENT AND NOT TO THE COMPONENTS ALONE.
5. SUBMITTALS:
A. THREE COPIES OF MATERIALS LIST, SHOP DRAWINGS AND DATA SHEETS
SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO ARCHITECT &/OR CONSTRUCTION MANAGER FOR
REVIEW. SUBMITTALS SHALL BE MADE AND FAVORABLE REVIEW SECURED
BEFORE MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT IS INSTALLED.
B. MATERIALS LIST SHALL INCLUDE FIXTURES, SWITCHGEAR, PANELS, DEVICES,
WIREWAYS, DISCONNECTS, LAMPS AND ALL OTHER SPECIFIED OR
UNSPECIFIED STANDARD CATALOGED MATERIALS TO BE USED. THE LIST
SHALL INCLUDE MANUFACTURER, TYPE AND SUCH OTHER DESCRIPTIVE DATA
AS MAY BE REQUIRED TO DETERMINE THE ACCEPTABILITY OF EACH ITEM.
C. SHOP DRAWINGS AND DATA SHEETS FOR EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS SHALL
BE SUBMITTED WHERE REQUIRED IN THE SPECIFICATION FOR THOSE ITEMS.
INCLUDE INFORMATION ON EACH COMPONENT, WIRING DIAGRAMS, LAYOUTS,
DIMENSIONS AND SUFFICIENT OTHER DATA TO ESTABLISH COMPLIANCE WITH
THE SPECIFICATIONS AND ACCEPTABILITY OF THE EQUIPMENT OR SYSTEM.
6. PERMITS AND DRAWINGS:
A. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT TO THE LOCAL AUTHORITY THE
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO PURCHASE AND SECURE ALL NECESSARY PERMITS
AND COORDINATE REQUIRED INSPECTIONS FOR APPROVAL.
7. AS -BUILT DRAWINGS:
A. ON A SET OF CONTRACT DRAWINGS, KEPT AT THE SITE DURING
CONSTRUCTION, MARK ALL WORK THAT IS INSTALLED DIFFERENTLY FROM
THAT SHOWN, INCLUDING ANY REVISED CIRCUITRY, MATERIAL OR
EQUIPMENT. UPON CONCLUSION OF WORK, DELIVER TO OWNER'S REP.
CONSTRUCTION MANAGER A SET OF SIGNED AND DATED "AS —BUILT"
DRAWINGS.
8. GUARANTEE:
A. ALL WORK SHALL BE GUARANTEED FOR A MINIMUM PERIOD OF ONE YEAR
FROM THE DATE OF ACCEPTANCE BY THE OWNER. THE GUARANTEE PERIOD
FOR CERTAIN ITEMS SHALL BE LONGER, AS INDICATED IN THE
SPECIFICATION FOR THOSE ITEMS.
B. SHOULD ANY MALFUNCTION DEVELOP DURING THE GUARANTEE TIME PERIOD
DUE TO DEFECTIVE MATERIAL, FAULTY WORKMANSHIP, OR NON—COMPLIANCE
WITH PLANS, SPECIFICATIONS, CODES OR DIRECTIONS OF THE OWNER,

CITY OF RENTON STANDARD
Conduit, Innerduct, and Outerduct
The conduit PVC — non—metallic shall be of the two types indicated below:
1. Schedule 80 Extra heavy wall PVC conforming to ASTM, Standards, to be used in all
installations under roadways.
2. Schedule 40 heavy wall PVC conforming to ASTM Standards.
Standard Duty Junction Boxes
Junction boxes shall be reinforced concrete with galvanized steel frame anchored in place and
galvanized steel cover plate (Diamond pattern). Grounding lugs shall be stainless steel and shall be
mechanically and electrically bonded. Junction boxes for copper wire shall incorporate a locking lid per
City of Renton Standard Plan. Junction boxes placed in the sidewalks shall have non—skid lids.
Decorative Luminaires
Roadway and pedestrian luminaires shall be LED type, wattages similar to the wattages shown in the
luminaire schedules on the Plans. The Contractor shall be responsible for verifying that the
performance of the LED luminaires is adequate to comply with the City illumination standards
(roadways: 1.3 ft—candles average and 4:1 uniformity; intersections: 1.5 ft—candles average and 4:1
uniformity, and a minimum of 0.8 ft—candles at any location within the crosswalks) without modifying
illumination and signal pole locations shown on the Plans. AG132 files shall be provided, by the
Contractor upon the request, by the Engineer.
The roadway and pedestrian luminaire housing shall be dome shaped and similar to dimensions as
shown on the Plans, made of cast or spun aluminum with tempered flat glass lens attached to a
round cast aluminum lens frame with one or more latches to provide tool less access to the internal
components, upper section shall be round aluminum tubing with shallow dome shaped top cap.
Luminaire shall be IP66 certified and conform to UL 1598 standards or CSA certified.
Optical assembly/reflector shall be made of pre —anodized aluminum, segmented in multiple facets,
ventilated perforations and heat sinks to maximize heat dissipation. Reflector shall produce full
cut—off Type III optics to meet the design/performance criteria, 4000K CCT. LED driver module rated
for 120V-277V operation, high power factor (90%), with a minimum starting temperature of —40
Degrees Fahrenheit, secured on a tool less access tray with quick disconnects. Individual LED chips or
modules shall be removable by means of tool less access in the event they need to be replaced. LED
driver not to exceed 750 MA.
All decorative fixtures shall be of the same manufacturer and external appearance.
Color shall use paint code RAL9005TX
Follow standard 121 for street lighting identification numbers. Obtain pole number scheme from
Transportation Maintenance Manager Eric Cutshall 425-430-7423.
Photoelectric Controls
Photoelectric controls shall be a plug—in device, rated to operate on 120 volts, 60 Hz. The unit shall
consist of a light sensitive element connected to necessary control relays. The unit shall be so
designed that a failure of any electronic component will energize the lighting circuit.
The photo cell shall be a solid state device with stable turn —on values in the temperature range of
—55 degrees C to +70 degrees C. In a contactor controlled system, the photo cell to control the
system shall be mounted on the luminaire nearest to the service/contactor cabinet. The photo cell
shall be rated as a 10—year (or higher) life expectancy.
