Project No. Permit No. Supplementary Report: At the client’s request, ESNW rep was onsite to observe cut slopes and test footing backfill. Cut Slopes While onsite, rep observed south slopes of the cut slopes to be near vertical and covered in plastic sheeting. Rep observed that the east slopes of the excavation were near a 0.75:1 (H:V) slope. Although over-steepened, slopes are stable in current configuration and stable to work within. The contractor is responsible for providing all safety measures in accordance with state and federal regulation. Rep observed that contractor had sloped the southeast corner of the footing excavation to a 1:1 (H:V). Footing Backfill Rep observed contractor use a medium sized excavator to mix and cement treat native brown silty sand with gravel material. Rep observed contractor treat native material with a 3% cement mix. Rep observed contractor place 12” lifts and compacted with a jumping jack or a hoe pack when able. Rep took compaction tests on backfill and observed material to be adequate (at least 95% of its maximum dry density that was adjusted based on calculations with the cement treatment) (Fig 1) (130.7 lbs./cu. ft.).
