Meeting Minutes
Renton History Museum
235 Mill Avenue South
December 18, 2013^' S30 p.m.
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Lynne King called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m.
In Attendance
Members: Laurie Beden, Lynne King, Erica Richey, Catherine Ploue-Smith, Suzi Ure
City Staff: Terry Higashiyama, Peter Renner, Diane Wagner
KCLS Staff: Judith Lelter I
Guests: Mayor Denis Law, Jay Covington, City of Renton Chief Administrative

II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
A motion was made by Catherine Ploue-Smith, seconded by Suzi Ure,to approve the agenda.
All were in favor, motion carried, agenda approved.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Catherine Ploue-Smith made a motion to approve November 2013 minutes, Suzi Ure
seconded. All were in favor, motion carried, minutes approved.
IV. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS/PUBLIC COMMENTS
None.
V. WELCOME
Elizabeth Stewart welcomed the group to the Renton History Museum and discussed the
current exhibit which includes twenty different local photographers showcasing different
parks, landscapes, buildings, etc throughout Renton. A panel of five judges awarded Best in
Show, 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place prizes. Visitors to the Museum can vote for the
People's Choice Award. All five award winners will be made into postcards available for sale at
the Museum.
Elizabeth also discussed the next exhibit which is a collaboration with Renton High School
sophomore English honor students who will learn about museum procedures, do work in
research, essays, search with a theme about Renton families. The exhibit begins
approximately February 25, 2014.

Elizabeth told the group about new membership plans available with new limits, promotions,
and encouraged all to become a member if not already, it's a great way to stay connected to
Renton!
VI. MAYOR LAW
Terry Higashiyama introduced Mayor Law who attended the meeting along with Jay
Convington. Mayor Law thanked the Board for serving and volunteering their time, and he
appreciates the time, effort and commitment each person contributes. He is excited for the
new beautiful libraries that will be groundbreaking soon.
VII. YEAR END WRAP UP
Terry made a few comments about the year in review including the challenges faced by the
Board with the election, Council meetings, miscellaneous correspondence, etc and echoed
Mayor Law's comments about how much the City appreciates the Board for volunteering
their time and for their commitment and professionalism throughout the year. Great work to
all ^'thank you!
VIII. INFORMATION
Lynne thanked Judith for donating to the REACH Center of Hope in name of the Library Board.
IX. ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Suzi Ure and seconded by Erica Richey to adjourn the December
meeting. All were in favor, motion carried, the meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
