HomeMy WebLinkAboutWeatherly Inn Renton (W-4036) - Approved revisions to water main design and installation and upsizing of fire sprinkler stub and DDCVA.msgHello all, The following is our response and approval for various design changes to the water mains related to the Weatherly Inn development at 4500 Talbot Rd S: 1. Installation of additional horizontal bends at northwest corner of site I have evaluated the request for the installation of 2 additional horizontal 45° bends on the new water line at the northwest corner of the site to avoid a conflict with an existing underground power conduit. I am approving the installation of the 2- 45° bends subject to the use of Megalug-type retainer glands on the 2 MJ bends and also with the installation of concrete thrust blocks per city standard plan no. 330.2. 2. Revision to connection to existing water line at southeast corner of site I have visited the site on Friday 6/25/20 to evaluate the revised connection from the new on-site water main to the existing 10-inch water line near the southeast corner of the site. A combination of horizontal and vertical bends will be required to connect the new on-site 10-inch water stub to the existing stub on the south side of the site. After the poly-pigging cleaning, pressure testing and disinfection of the new on-site water mains, the connection from the new 10-inch stub to the existing line can be made by city forces with the use of a combination of horizontal and vertical bends. The contractor shall provide all required fittings, shackle rods, and materials for city forces to make the final connection. The contractor shall install concrete horizontal and vertical blocks at the bends and backfill the trenches. The city will notify affected water customers regarding the shut-down of the existing water main to perform the connection. After all satisfactory testing and disinfection of the new water mains, the contractor shall coordinate with the city’s inspector Tom Main to schedule the final connections by city forces of the new water mains to the existing mains. The contractor shall kept “as-built” sketches and photos of the final connections and shall provide them to the engineer of records for the preparation of the final as-built plans. 3. Revision to sizing of fire sprinkler stub and DDCVA The request to change the size of the fire sprinkler stub and DDCVA from 4-inch to 6-inch is approved. Please note that the vault for the 6-inch DDCVA is larger than the one for the 4-inch. Please refer to city standard plan no. 360.2. If a 4-inch valve is already installed at the main line 10”x4”tee, we would allow the installation of a 4”x6” increaser subject to its approval by the fire sprinkler designer/contractor. It is our understanding the revised sizing of the fire sprinkler stub and DDCVA has been confirmed with a fire sprinkler designer. The installation of the fire sprinkler piping behind the new DDCVA vault to the building must be inspected by the Regional Fire Authority (RFA) and the contractor must be a state-certified fire sprinkler contractor. Please make sure that the required permit has been applied for and obtained from RFA. Please let us know if you have any questions on this matter and thank you for your patience and cooperation. The following erosion control items must be addressed before ANY utility work can continue as of the time of this email: * Silt Fence is missing at the front of the site. Install silt fence per the approved Erosion Control Plan. * Silt in the driveway CB must be cleaned out and inspected. * Truck wash is not currently operational. Please rectify. * Stockpiles are not covered. Cover all stock piles per the approved Erosion Control Plan. As soon as these items are addressed, call in the erosion control inspection so that utility work can resume. Best Regards, Jonathan Chavez, P.E. Civil Engineer III | Dev.
