HomeMy WebLinkAboutRE Weatherly Inn Water, Storm, Sewer RevisionGood morning Mark, 1. Once the SW hydrant is installed, can we revise the pedestrian diversion to add a temp sidewalk on the east side of the hydrant to better isolate the pedestrians from traffic? a. Temporary sidewalks cannot be constructed out of cold patch. I suggest you consider using concrete to get Transportation’s buyoff on the Traffic Control Plan, as this is what has been approved in the past for temporary facilities that will be in place for a prolonged period of time. You will need to show how this temporary sidewalk will not impact the planned water tie-in that our crew will be performing in the future. 2. Please let me know why the sidewalk closure/detour was rejected and possibly point me towards what will need to be done to allow such a detour. a. There are no pedestrian curb ramps between 45th and 55th that you can direct pedestrians to. 3. If you can update me on the status of the water, sewer, and storm revision re-submission at the main entrance that SCJ Alliance submitted on Thursday 5/21, it would be greatly appreciated. (As I mentioned in the voicemail I left Jonathan on Friday, Ross misspoke in his email. The storm revision is not installed and the wye that Ross shows the sanitary sewer from the building connecting to is installed, but we still need to install the pipe to the building.) a. Sanitary sewer revision – approved. b. Storm revision – denied. The benefit to the City is compliance with DOE separation requirements between public water lines and other non-potable utilities. c. Water revision- Please provide a survey accurate drawing of the exact location of the bell for our review. Best Regards, Jonathan Chavez, P.E. Civil Engineer III | Dev. From: Mark Richardson <mark@accrete.build> Sent: Wednesday, June 03, 2020 10:06 AM To: Jonathan Chavez <JChavez@Rentonwa.gov>; Thomas Main <TMain@Rentonwa.gov> Subject: Weatherly Inn Pedestrian Diversion Good morning Tom and Jonathan, I’ve been peripherally aware that Rino has been discussing the traffic control plan to re-route pedestrians to install the SW hydrant at Weatherly Inn, but I wasn’t directly involved until yesterday. This morning is the first time I have seen the attached and I have been told that their intent is to leave this diversion in place for the next few months until the frontage work is complete. I’ve been told that the city rejected the plan to install a temporary sidewalk around the east side of the hydrant once it is installed and I’m wondering why. It seems like diverting the pedestrians around the hydrant away from the street while frontage is not being worked on would be safer for the pedestrians and we have the space to do it. Since my understanding of what the city has directed is word of mouth from Rino, I was hoping you could confirm the city’s position on diverting the pedestrian traffic to the east once the hydrant is installed. Looking towards the future frontage work, I anticipate periods of time where the work will likely require the closure of the sidewalk and the parking lane where this shows us diverting pedestrians. Can you let me know why the plan to detour pedestrians across the street (Rino’s original plan?) was rejected? Looking at TCP #TC16 from the Renton website, I think I may have an idea as to why, but would prefer not to make assumptions planning for future work. Just to summarize: 1. Once the SW hydrant is installed, can we revise the pedestrian diversion to add a temp sidewalk on the east side of the hydrant to better isolate the pedestrians from traffic? 2. Please let me know why the sidewalk closure/detour was rejected and possibly point me towards what will need to be done to allow such a detour. 3.
