To Whom It May Concern:
For many years, the City of Renton (the "City") and the Renton School District (the "District")
(collectively, the "Parties") have enjoyed a productive working relationship which has resulted in a
number of annual contracts whereby the City provides police services to the District in exchange for a
fee. This partnership has fostered a safe and healthy environment for Renton's students and the
surrounding community.
However, due to the unforeseeable public health emergency as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that
began earlier this year, the Parties agree that the performance of their contract for the 2019-20 school
year (CAG-19-301, hereafter "the 2019-20 Contract") was severely disrupted. The District was forced
to close its schools and the City's services were therefore rendered obsolete beginning in March 2020,
with the exception of attending high school graduation ceremonies in June. Those disruptions have
continued into the current school year, which has caused the Parties to reevaluate the terms of their
future agreements.
Accordingly, because it has become unnecessary for the Parties to perform the 2019-20 Contract as
written, the Parties have mutually agreed to modify the 2019-20 Contract as follows:
Section 1.3 contemplates that any termination of the contract would result in a prorated payments
based on services actually performed. Specifically:
The Agreement may be terminated by either party by ninety (90) days written statement of
termination directed to the other party. Should the Agreement be terminated be[sic] either
party, the District shall pay the City for services provided through the termination date, and the
City will reimburse the District on a prorated basis for any payment previously made in advance
of services provided by the City.
Additionally, Section 5.1 states that annual payments shall be prorated on a monthly basis:
The District will compensate the City for a portion of the salary and benefits incurred for the
assigned School Resource Officers on a monthly basis for the duration of the agreement. The
District will pay the City $85,000 each school year, for each SRO assigned, prorated and invoiced
on a monthly basis.
Based on the original intent of the Parties, and the unforeseeable events and circumstances affecting
the performance of the 2019-20 Contract, as well as the terms described herein, the Parties agree that

the City will return $1,062.50 to the District based on services actually performed by the City and
payments actually made by the District prior to the closure of the District's schools. This agreement
will constitute the final performance of the 2019-20 Contract, and the Parties each agree to waive all
claims against the other based on performance of the 2019-20 Contract.
The Parties look forward to continuing their productive working relationship for the benefit of the
residents and students of Renton by entering a new contract for the 2020-21 school year, and they
intend to begin those negotiations immediately.
Sincerely,
- k, QL-,
