a. Maplewood Golf Course, Doug Mills – Course, Pro Shop and Driving Range were closed for a total of
41 days. Tempered glass shield and other social distancing, cleaning and required mask-wearing
protocol were installed to comply with state requirements. Tactics have been recognized by other
golf courses and agencies as being innovative. Closure included 5 closure days due to two employees
testing positive for Covid-19. No customers were ever at risk, while all staff tested and facility was
thoroughly cleaned. Estimated $15,000 loss in revenue. Operations continue to be busy, with
increased activity, sales and tee time since they’re reopened. Concessionaire is open with reduced
operations, with a decrease in revenue. Kelly and Doug are meeting with the mayor to look at
possible options for the concessionaire. New 6-year lease was just signed, renewable for another 6
years.
b. Recreation and Neighborhoods, Carrie Nass and Drey Hicks – Virtual programming continues with
weekly and monthly themes for engaging activities for all ages. See attached slide presentation for
details. Through exit surveys and participation inquiries, staff are hearing many positive responses
and appreciation for the daily/weekly live videos, engaging activities, craft/activity kits, free masks,
and upcoming activities incorporated with the Benson Mural project. The Tuesday, August 25th Trivia
Night theme is “Into the Pacific Northwest – Pop Culture & Geography”. Survey results are being
compiled to capture data that will influence upcoming programming. It’s been crucial to hear what
the community wants and needs at this time.
